The Company of the Burning Branch
The Company of the Burning Branch was an adventuring party active from approximately EC 4550 to 4575. In this time they largely dealt with undead and plant monsters, and were mainly known for their 4566 defeat of the vine wights Nettlespine and Chokeweed, whose armies had menaced the forests of Gaulvista for some years. After this, they were recruited a few times by the king of Gaulvista at the time, Gelefris Ashamë, but mostly worked independently, sometimes going silent for several years at a time. In 4575 two of their four members were killed by the necromancer Vetrano the Illustrious, and shortly after the remaining members disbanded.
Clethtinthiallor Direcris
Direcris was a bronze dragonborn and a paladin who had sworn the Oath the Ancients as soon as he had come of age. He was from an unknown village in Volkhaven, and died in combat in 4596.
Dim and Distant Star
Star's family is reported to have been among the very first tabaxi to settle in Talazic. She was an early companion of Direcris, as they hailed from neighboring villages, and specialized in stealth and subterfuge, reportedly making use of magic in these ventures. She was killed by Vetrano in the decisive battle which ended the Company.
Ivy Endimast
Ivy Endimast, the party's only human, was originally from Sim Anthor, though she trained at Shirina Monastery in the region of Morvin, learning the Way of the Four Elements. In 4569, she married and retired from the Company, having several children. When the threat of Vetrano began to grow, she rejoined the party to stop him, and fell alongside Star in 4575. Her descendants still live in Gaulvista to this day.
Harlan Copperbell
Harlan was a halfling druid of the Circle of Dreams in Volkhaven's Longshadow Forest. He met Direcris and Star when they were hunting a powerful magic item rumored to be hidden in the forest. The fey were disturbed by their presence, and Harlan warned them away, but in the end accompanied them and joined their party. No records of him exist after the Company's decisive defeat at the hands of Vetrano, and he is assumed to have withdrawn to the wilds and passed away peacefully.
