Miri

The Miri are a terrestrial and subterranean humanoid reptilian species with average to high intelligence. They are obligate carnivores that hunt mainly in the winter and spring, and their incredibly slow metabolism allows them to survive off of less abundant fresh hunts and rationed stores of preserved meats during the summer. Their average lifespan is between 100-150 years, and they are typically 2-4 feet tall.

The Miri are a migratory peoples; due to the binary suns’ near-constant direct light on their land, in the summertime most communities live and stay in the extensive cave network within the mountains, moving back to the surface in the spring and winter. Eastern communities are more likely to spend more time above-ground due to decent rainfall from the Hat’lo (Ibra Sao) Sea’s heavy storm systems, while communities in the West are more likely to spend time underground due to the drought and aridity on western faces of the Misim mountain range. Eastern communities tend towards having psychic abilities, seeing as forestation is more common along the east coast of Okai's Misim Landmasses.

The Miri have a gerontocratic tribal governmental structure, placing high importance on the views of their elders. They are only just beginning to utilise metalworking but they have a good grasp on ecology, basic agriculture, and the development of stone tools. They have an oral language called Banai, and they utilise a proto-writing system composed of pictograms and ideograms. As of yet, they have no seafaring ability or naval presence, nor do they have the inclination to leave their homeland. The high cliffs of the Misim landmasses would make attempting to build an easily accessible harbour difficult.
