Simnas, the Great Machinery
Many consider Simnas one of the “New” gods who ascended during the Era of the Elders as Industry, which he is the god of, seems a younger concept than let’s say Dreams or Violence. That would be a mistake, as although his worship was most prominent during the younger Eras, Simnas has existed just as long as most of the other Kaladean gods. For as long as there have been Dreams, there must have been ways to achieve them, and for as long as there has been Violence, there must have been tools to enact it. This is Simnas’ domain, the domain of unrestricted creation fueled by ambition, a perpetual machine with endless demands and ever-increasing productivity.
Sacred Attributes
As the God of Industry and Machines, it is only fitting that Simnas’ Sacred Symbol is a Cog (Oktorodas), with Eight Tooth mirroring the eight schools of magic that Simnas claim to be able to replicate through his technology. His Favoured Animal is the Horse, whose work carries the advancement of industry through all ages, and his Favoured Colour is the Light Grey, or Silver, the colour of worked metal through which ambitions become reality. Finally, his Sacred Weapon is the Warhammer, the tool fit for both industry and war.Description
As all the gods do, Simnas most often takes on a guise that reflects his legends and domains. It comes then as no surprise that his favoured shape is that of a man of metal, any trace of flesh hidden behind sheets of steel, an impervious shell devoid of humanity. His appearance therefore aligns with none of the common mortal races of Einas, but with the very idea of technology, industry and progress. To those he chooses to approach, he speaks in a cold and mechanical voice, his slow and methodical demeanour unnerving to all but the most robust minds.Personality
Reflecting his appearance, Simnas is a cold and calculating being, eager to embrace rationality and disregard emotions. Hailed as one of the most intelligent of the Kaladean gods, Simnas seems preoccupied only by technological progress in a quest to always further expand production in a world he sees as holding infinite demand. He values hard-work and business acumen, sagacity and practicality, and above all ambition. Ambitions that drive mortals and mortals alike through the eons of existence, and whose most effective avenue to achieve, Simas has concluded, is through industry. Some call him greedy and power hungry, but the truth is that for the most part Simnas is simply uncaring. Morality has no place in his world, where the end always justifies the means. This is most well known in his deep association with war. Conflicts which the divinity seems so fond of. But it is not the violence and destruction that entice Simnas, but what it fuels. Blood is a lubricant for industry, and so it is treated like any other thing, as a tool for progress in which the benefits often outweighs the price.Worship
Simnas worship is centred around the central idea of neverending industrial revolution, of technological progress in service of civilisation, and this has made him quite a popular deity amongst many circles. Entrepreneurs and industrialists of course, as well as those at the forefront of scientific progress, but also many of the small folks who see in industrial technology a mean to prosper. But that in no way means that all the people of Kaladea are in favour of the gifts Simnas promises. As a matter of fact, Simnas is an extremely cleaving deity with many criticising him and his most fervent worshippers of defiling nature in the name of greed and profit. And this is not an unjust claim, as the clergy of Simnas is famous for its rigidity and sometime callousness against those it perceives as obstacles to their objectives. That being said, the clergy of Simnas is still mostly focused on what they believe to be the betterment of civilisation. Their priests and priestesses either work directly to support industry, or more often focus their effort on spreading it amongst the population. To them, technology is a gift from their god and should be accessible to everyone. Business competition is perfectly fine, as it is necessary to bolster innovation, but ultimately the industry is just a tool for people to use and achieve their ambition. It is not rare to see a member of Simnas’ clergy counselling or even leading major infrastructure project for example, as many amongst their ranks are learned in the arts of architecture and engineering, or talking to local farmers about upgrading their tools. Temples dedicated to Simnas also reflect this devotion to technology, often being centred on and/or surrounded by workshops of all kind, in which priests and priestesses work on new manufacturing techniques and study the property of materials and how to best put them to use. Those places of worship can range from a humble forge to the greatest industrial complexes, none greater and more majestic than the Great Temple of Ephea, whose towering chimneys stand tall above the city. This massive building atop the mountains houses the most advanced forges and ateliers of the continent, in which the most diligent and ambitious of Simnas worshippers spend their days researching and crafting the tools of tomorrow under the studious eye of their god.Divine Domains
