Lue, the Insatiable Curiosity
As the first member of the mortal races to be elevated to godhood, Lue stands as a symbol of pioneering and an icon for trailblazers across the Empire. Originally a young elven girl who, pushed by her curiosity, found a way to the Heavens, Lue is now the goddess of Secrets and Forbidden Knowledge. But far from only being a hoarder of such things, she is also an enticer luring people to discover what is kept from them is they are able. And though she never gives anything freely, requiring seekers to prove their worth facing challenges and misdirection, it is always rewards of incredible value that awaits at the end of her games. Sometime cryptic, and often surprising, but always of interest.
Sacred Attributes
The Open-Closed Eye (Akles) is Lue’s universal symbol, representing the duality of her nature as seeker of secret and keeper of forbidden knowledge, as well as the goddess’ supposed ability to see through illusions with her eyes closed. Her Favoured animal is the Cat, who like her is both lazy and curious, and is said to see more than meet the eye. Her favoured colour is Light Blue, the colour of the bright and serene sky, clear waters and all that is favourable to adventures. Finaly, her Sacred Weapon is the Rapier, who she supposedly carried during her mortal life, a weapon agile and versatile as should be the mind of all who seek the truth.Description
Perhaps unsurprising coming from the goddess of secrets, Lue is known to take many different shapes when walking the surface of Eina. She does not seem to heavily favour any race in particular, though she is still traditionally represented as elven due to her mortal origin. The same goes for gender, as she is traditionally seen as female although even in life her gender seemed to have been the subject of confusion, and she has been known to take forms from either, and even neither, of the two genders. In truth, perhaps her most common features come down to colour and age. Blue, especially light blue, is seemingly always present in her form, be it in her attire or body. Eyes and lips seem to be the favoured places, but more inconspicuous choices have been noted, down to her very own skin-colour. As for age, it is accepted that Lue appears almost exclusively as young members of whatever race she picked, often appearing as a child or adolescent. Some attribute this to her childlike temperament while other point to the young age at which she supposedly ascended to godhood. Finally, in the rare cases where she has been recognised as an animal, she seems to favour small and agile beasts, cats obviously but also small rodents or even blue-hued birds.Personality
Lue mind is seemingly an accumulation of paradoxes of which only she can make sense. Appearing as mischievous and innocent, almost childlike at a first glance, the goddess is driven by endless curiosity and a desire for learning that seemingly knows no bound. But while Lue gloats and prides herself on her knowledge, it is clear that there is a part of those mysteries that she keeps deeply veiled behind layers of secrecy and enigmas. A glimpse of this side of the goddess reveal a more dangerous divinity prone to dragging those that are lured by her appeal to seek knowledge beyond what their mind can handle. There is a reason why some secrets are kept, why some places are forbidden and things best left forgotten. But Lue knows of this tendency of hers. That is why she tests those that seek secrets, with her games and challenges, trials meant to discourage the unworthy. It is not out of jealousy or avarice that she keeps the secrets she hoards at bay, not contempt or distaste toward the mortal races. She does so out of concern, to protect mortals from the danger of many truths of this world. That is why she plays her games, sets up her trials and speaks in enigmas. To seek those with whom she can share her secrets, and keep all others away.Worship
As the Goddess of Secrets and Forbidden Knowledge, it seems natural that Lue has gathered both the greatest number of worshippers amongst the ranks of the scholars. Curiosity is, after all, the fuel of many studies and most discoveries, both in matters relative to the mundane and the occult. Scientists, Mages and all manners of students pray to Lue to give them insight, to allow them a peek behind the veil and a chance to further understand the truth of this world. But many also pray to the goddess to remind themselves of the dangers of curiosity, and the threats that come to those that deal with the hidden and the secret. Beyond the world of academics, there are also those that worship Lue simply because they are intrinsically linked with the very idea of secrets. Be it by trades, by chance or by choice, many feel the weight of secrets or the need to meddle with them. Spies, liars and confidents all find themselves praying to the goddess. And let’s not forget adventurers. There is an inherent curiosity to many who take the roads uncharted, and trailblazers often keep Lue in their mind as they travel and uncover the secrets of the world. Many simply hope for enthralling discoveries, but there are also those that seek to walk the path of the goddess herself, and one day maybe even join her amongst the heavens. This duality of academicians and adventurers, of knowledge and secrets, can also be found in the goddess’ clergy. Lue’s priest and priestesses are few and often dispersed across the world in search of the knowledge left by their goddess. It is often in their nature to seek secrets, as they emulate their divinity and her curiosity. But there are those that choose to settle anyway. Perhaps to plunge deeper in a localised mystery, or simply to lend their mind and curiosity to communities in need of it. The focus of Lue’s clergy is the understanding and teaching of knowledge. Of any kind, and in any form, to those that are worthy. And the tricks they employ to ensure that last point is perhaps what has made them most famous. In the spirit of their goddess’ teaching, members of Lue’s clergy do not only strive to find secrets and forbidden knowledge, but also to keep it away from those that would use it unwisely. That the exact meaning of one’s worthiness toward certain secrets is kept vague and down to the individual priest or priestess, means that there are those that feel slighted when their attempt to access knowledge judged beyond them are actively impeded by the actions of Lue’s follower. Rarely does it come to violence thankfully, for the clergy prefers misdirection and obscurification to simply lead their victims away from the truth. But it has been known to happen, for example when defending their hidden temples and the secrets kept inside. The greatest of those repositories of forbidden knowledge, and the only one whose location is common knowledge, is the Great Temple of Lue in Lailamis. Here all are free to ask questions, face trials and prove their worth amongst the labyrinthine walls of this towering building, filled with lost knowledge encrypted and hidden in plain sight.Divine Domains
