Koel Mastiff

In 1407 CE the great grandfather of Koel Mastiff, Lorend Mastiff, was born to loving parents who had built a small home on an uninhabited island in the Pagloan Archipelago. He would be their only son, but that was enough for them and their pack of brindled mastiffs.
The remoteness of the little family, and the aid of the neighboring islands protected Lorend Mastiff and his family from the Mastiff pogrom of 1433 CE. When news of the global massacre reached them, 26 year old Lorend made two vows; first, the house of Mastiff would not be rebuilt, second, his descendants would wield power like no others.
Besides an ingrained desire for solitude, except for the companionship of their pack, the Mastiff family sought isolation so the world at large would not know branded family members regularly grew to ages in excess of 200 years old. As it turns out the remote Mastiff family also guarded the sought after Mastiff brand.
Lorend fostered out any daughters he had and only branded one male son he had late in life. He spent his early years advising his neighbors on the organization of the PIIGs, volunteering his island a neutral meeting ground for all parties. He also had an accelerated breeding program (involving large volumes of culling) to bring the local caning pack to his desired specifications.
Fast forward a half a century. Koel Mastiff, born in 1906 CE, is known as The Janitor of the Piigpen, and most people only know him as The Janitor. What would have been his ancestral home is a hulking fortress. No one except the razorbacks know of his heritage or his age. He is also the only branded Mastiff in all of Eilea. He lives with his wife and three small children in an apartment set aside in the deeps of the Piigpen. Though his family are regularly seen at any market event on surrounding islands, Koel never leaved the Piigpen.
Koel continues to breed his pack of brindled mastiffs, but not with the same violent intensity as his forebears. They are hulking beasts, standing six feet at the shoulder and weighing upwards of a quarter ton. They guard the Piigpen, patrolling the halls and the exposed outside areas, reporting Kuun as needed. Koel's companion Kuun rarely leaves the deeps, preferring to stand guard at their small homestead. The dogs are unknown to the world at large, the breed not being allowed off of the island fortress.
But Koel has another pack as well. The Mastiffs had also bred a small sleek nondescript hunting mastiff. The Pagloan Mastiff, as the breed came to be known, was valued across Eilea as a companion dog, a hunting dog and a guard dog. Unknown to anyone except Koel was the fact that the Pagloan Mastiffs had also been bred to have a mental link back to the Mastiff Brand. Koel maintains a global spy network, being able to access information through his pack of Pagloan Mastiffs.
Koel is a grey man, large, but otherwise nondescript except for his eyes, which he keeps downcast as he wheels his ever present mop bucket through the Piigpen. The razorbacks value insight and advice he gives them; knowing it is accurate; not knowing how he acquires it. Koel sends out anonymous missives from time to time to influence matters across the globe. He is not above altering meeting notes or unguarded outgoing messages, but always unseen. Global policies, treaties, declarations of war, even the deciding game of the 1967 CE Worldman competition have all been influenced by a Janitor in the Piigpen, unknown to the rest of the world.
