Dragon Hunters Profession in Eien | World Anvil

Dragon Hunters

A greatly feared - and loathed - profession, the Dragon Hunters were an elite group of mercenary guilds paid to hunt and harvest Dragons.

Despite the legends surrounding the great creatures and the general reverance many species hold for them, there are always detractors and those who seek power for power's sake, regardless of the cost. Dragon Hunters cared little for the balance of the world or what they took from it every time they killed a dragon. The ancient Sovathy Empire paid handsomely for dragon bones and artifacts, and for over a hundred years the guilds prospered.

After the events of the Reckoning War, however, the appetite for dead dragons dried up considerably in the wake of the fatal consequences for crossing them. One guild has remained long after the others disbanded or found other work, with the mercenaries drawn to it known for taking on dangerous bounties in addition to the rare Dragon hunt.

These days, they specialize in tracking and capturing escaped Kejasi slaves; with an almost fanatical devotion to capturing escaped sovathy whenever a contract comes up. If asked, they tend to laugh it off as 'obvious,' - the sovathy resemble dragons, don't they?

Career

Payment & Reimbursement

The Guild negotiates contracts and payments from private individuals, governments and merchants. Each mercenary who takes part in a hunt and contributes to the success of a hunt gets a cut. The delegation of labor is an important part of the negotiation process, with skilled workers (i.e. trackers, mages, alchemists, etc) getting bonuses equivalent to their skill and ability.

Individual mercenaries caa and do operate under the guild's banner, though most contract together on jobs and separate once they are done.
Demand
Low, almost obsolete in the traditional sense. They take on difficult bounties to make up for the lack of dragon hunt contracts.
