Aeythrane-Sovat Crystals Material in Eien | World Anvil

Aeythrane-Sovat Crystals

Idea Seed:   Congregations of rare crystals that attract each other and fuse, with energy being released with each fusion. The Sovathi mined the planet extensively for these crystals (found in inert veins combined with other minerals) and developed a process to refine the energy stones and harness energy from them. Their empire spread in direct relation to where their explorers found viable veins. Sovathi venerated the clans of their kin who produced exceptional explorers and hunters capable of finding new veins. The mines themselves were overseen by elite families and powered by prisoners of war/conquest and slaves alike. Some cutting edge technology in the Sovathi empire was storing information in lower grade energy crystals and creating the ability to retrieve that information at specific terminals. Four Imperial clusters are known to still exist in the modern day, one of which was in the former Sovathi imperial war room, now located in present day Kejas. It is believed that many Sovathi tactical formations are in the hands of the Kejasi, and that they are working on learning how to use the terminal. Some modern academics postulate that the terminals may be able to remotely send data from one site to another, but lack of access to them has limited their ability to prove or disprove the theory. Each crystal cluster is carefully guarded by the country it is located in.

Properties

Material Characteristics

All naturally occurring specimens of this species of crystal appear in conjuction with more common minerals and as a result of being exposed to oxygen. They typically look rather plain to the unaided eye, though once a miner applies magical sight, the crystals do possess an identifying iridescent glow.

Geology & Geography

Aeythrane-Sovat Crystals are typically found in deep mines around the equator. The largest deposits occur in modern day Kejas and the northernmost tip of the Southern Isles.

These are interesting. I feel like they bridge the gap between magic and technology.

Check out Natural Magic : a coming of age fantasy novel, because life is hard enough when you're fourteen, even without saving the world. Or listen to it in podcast form .
