Kingstown

Kingstown is the capital city of The Staldor Empire and the second largerst city in the known world. Located on a high cliff overlooking the coastline of the peninsula in South-East Eidos, which was originally under Spell-Breaker control, the metropolis is an imposing sight to any who set eyes upon it.

Demographics

Kingstown, as does the rest of Staldor, strives for equity towards all of its citizens and, as far as public institutions are concerned, this is true, everybody having an equal chance of making something of himself no matter what side of the walls he is born on.
Discrepancies still exist however, even after hundreds of years, perhaps in present times more than ever. The various enclaves outside the city walls are generally speaking poorer and less guarded but as one climbs the many steps of the city and passes its gates he would find better homes, fancier taverns, esquisite shops and the pseudo-nobility that were once the founding clans.

Government

Formely governed by the king of the whole Emipre, once the instauration of the Council of Three was in place the head of affairs within the walls of the capital was replaced with one of the members of the council, namely the Master of Vision. He is responsible with managing all the official tasks all those beneath him need doing while also juggling his political duties alongside the other councilmen.

Defences

Outside the old bastion of smooth black-stone, the original warmasons of Clan Staldor had build a series of four, increasingly taller and higher walls and gates (representing the main clans and their bannermen). Within these walled districts, the slabbed streets and alleyways are narrow and twisting, designed to stifle and frustrate any attacking force that managed to penetrate the fortress' outer defenses. The rooftops of buildings are flat and crenelated, like the battlements of a castle, allowing the garrison of 30.000 soldiers to dominate any enemy below.

Infrastructure

While nowhere near as pristine in appearance as Aslod, the city is the visual representation of the empire's austere nature.
As one enters the last series of gates, atop the hill upon which the old bastion rests, he would be met by a long unbroken flight of stairs, guarded every twenty steps, leading to the Audience Chamber; an old cavernous throne room, large enough to house over a thousand petitioners. While Hagan Staldor once perched the throne, the Council of Three, who now lead Staldor sit at a simple marble table at the foot of the throne's raised platform to discuss the future of the Empire and hear petitions from leaders of its regions.
Dotted all around the city are arenas that offer etertainment to the already worthy and oportunity for the lowly to prove their worth for the first time. This is not to say, however, that these arenas all are meant for combat. Some of them are debate centers or massive outdoor theaters for displays of plays, agility or magic skill.
The so called Alms-houses, sprawling beyond the battle scarred walls of the capital, are where many non-original members of the Staldors live, eagerly awating a new fortification to be built and to encompass them in the ever-expanding city properly. These irregular and distinct buildings are the homes of refugees who are not so welcome under the Chantry; Dragonborn, Tieflings and even Drow finding themselves in enclaves spanning from the coast-line and ports to the Iron-Gates; which serve as the main entrance in Kingstown

Guilds and Factions

The Order of the Warmasons, a distinct branch of the military, tasked not only with planning infrastructure, but also with scouting out enemy territory for future invasion, find their headquarters and recruiting center within the walls of the capital.
Military academies are also a common sight in Kingstown and since its people do not believe in regimentation a young recruit is allowed to choose how better to serve his country, be it in the calcualted savagery of the Iron Lords or the exotic versatily of the Hobgoblins and Orcs who bent the knee to name a few.
Embassies of all the people the Empire has relations of any kind, be it of sovereignty, hostility or comerce, can be found in the middle districts, the Staldors firmly believing in the freedom of speech of all those who they interact with.
Trade Guilds, as is the norm in respectable cities, ranging from Tailors and Carpenters to Toy-makers and Enchaters, can also be found insde the many walls of Kingstown.

History

Situated in the heartlands of what would later become the Staldor empire, Allm Othrond, as it was known back then, was built in a far distant age from even before the Rune-Wars as a citadel of smooth black stone, of the same design and make as the ruin upon which The College resides. The Chantry evetually expanded and took the fort and the city that sprawled around it under its watchul eye.
Yet, eventually, in 264, it was besieged and conquered by a confederation of barbarian tribes from The North who would make the stronghold their new capital. After this victory the Staldors would construct new walls, gates and crenellations, stamping their mark of authority of the newly named Kingstown, essentially building another city on top of the old one.

Architecture

Aside from the old bastion, none of the initial architecture of the city has survived the test of time. Even the original dwellings of the Clans who occupied Kingstown have been changed for the trade-mark roofs with indented battlements that overhang the lower floors of the dark-stone buildings.
