#56 Entrance to the Soul Vault
General Summary
After much deliberation at the threshold of the bridge, Draktus Glayde decides to carefully test its stability. As he does, he notices that despite his tiny form, the marilith at the other side seems to be watching him. Soon it appears to be watching all of them, and Korradin Xerthall calls out to it in abyssal. He attempts to negotiate passage, which the marilith scoffingly denies, but it does allow the Adventurers as much time as they want to prepare.
They wait until the enlarge/reduce spell has worn off, and proceed down the bridge to fight the marilith who calls itself simply "The Guardian". Both Korradin and Tia go down in the ensuing fight, but they are able to defeat the creature and its corpse falls off the bridge to the abyss below.
After reviving Korradin and Tia, they see a tunnel seemingly made of flesh lined with teeth leading under the skull where the marilith stood guard. To explore the tunnel, Tia Tsukiko sends Takana down to explore the maw. After traveling a few dozen feet down, the tunnel suddenly constricts and kills Takana. After some more experimenting, they activate the eye of foresight and see that it shows them a projection of the fortress a few seconds into the future. They use this to navigate through the entrance tunnel and the first few turns of the living fotress.
