#54 Journey Through Leroth Morn
General Summary
The group takes stock of their items before breaking camp. Draktus Glayde notices that he does not feel any negative effects after waking up, he begins to work on the armor that he took from the battle with Abraxes.
The party begins traveling up the hills on the of Leroth Morn. Traffic on the road thins to nearly nothing as they go higher up. Eventually they reach a dilapidated fortress. A few hundred feet from its destroyed courtyard, they are surprised to find a large pool of water, the first body of water they have seen in this plane since leaving the river Styx. After some discussion, Korradin Xerthall investigates and finds that the pool is protected from evaporation by magical runes. He also sees a creature in the water.
Aelen Moongrove uses his telepathy to communicate with the creature. After some hostile negotiations, they agree to bring it back demons to feed on in exchange for passage. However, shortly after leaving, they realize it has corrupted their water.
They continue on, when out of the dusty ash a wizard that introduces himself as Mordenkainen appears. He tells them about the Balance, and that the demons have gained a dangerous advantage over the 9 hells in the blood war. He also informs them that Vorteus's soul is almost certainly being kept in a living fortress known as the Xarin's Soul Vault, and that Vorteus is beyond saving. Instead, he asks them to use a vial of Nightwalker blood to destroy the soul vault. He also provides them with an artifact called the Eye of Foresight, to help them navigate the deadly traps within the Soul Vault.
The Adventurers press him for any possible way to save Vorteus, and he admits that there is an outside chance of binding his soul to some physical thing he possessed. They contact Kyrecia Aeliro via the sending stone. She tells them she has his dagger and estimates 3 days are left before her brand fully fades, but does not know how to meet them. At the request of Draktus, Mordenkainen agrees to cast a gate spell to bring the party to Fenyin if they succeed in destroying the soul vault. He also cleanses their water before disappearing as quickly as he had appeared.
