#45 The Drow Outpost
General Summary
The Adventurers beat back the first few Drow fairly easily. They then encounter a mage and some elite soldiers, but by taking advantage of the narrow confines of the outpost, they are able to defeat the soldiers and cause the mage to retreat.
They continue through the outpost, finding a narrow path alongside a chasm filled with spider webs. There is a bridge of spider's web leading to a tower, and other leading further down into the outpost. Korradin Xerthall sends gryphon (in spider form) to touch the web, and he senses thousands of spiders crawling along the web. A few minutes later he sends him again, and a large spider instantly appears from over the edge and kills him.
Eventually Aelen Moongrove attempts to step on the web bridge. As soon as he does, the narrow walkway is overrun by spiders crawling out of the chasm. Aelen runs back while Korradin sets a wall of fire along the wall leading up to the walkway. As quickly as the spiders appear, they disappear into various cracks and holes as the fire consumes the web nearest the wall.
After conferring for a while, the Adventurers decide it is worth the risk to see what is in the tower, and they use a combination of flying and their Shape Stone scroll to reach the other side and make a hole in the door. They almost immediately overpower the surprised mage. Inside the tower is a very large, exceptionally lifelike statue of a spider. They determine that there is an evil magic affecting the statue, but there also seems to be a source of neutral magic in its abdomen.
The party begins to destroy the statue, and they see blueish light emanating from a crack in the abdomen. It slowly flows out and pools on the ground near them. They widen the crack, and it eventually grows into a large, vaguely humanoid shape of blueish/white light. They recognize it as an Elder Echo or Maal'GIlderon. It thanks them for freeing it, saying that the body of a Severling is one of the few things capable of imprisoning one of its kind. Like the previous one, it then tells them that they each may ask a question.
