Efeaven

"Efeaven, well of course I've been there. I was in the middle of this old forest tracking down some old ruin when I ran into this cute little elf. We started talking, I didn't think to ask how or why she was there, and one thing led to another, I followed her around a few trees and suddenly I was somewhere else entirely. A beautiful little cottage grown into a tree, like I've never seen. Now, a gentleman doesn't talk about such private matters but I can tell you we nearly knocked down that tree. Took me a week to make my way home, I was nearly eaten, enslaved, and eaten again. Ended up in Fallion and I started in Phev, a month had gone by. I'd go back."

The origin of Efeaven is heavily debated by scholars, none of the Deities claim to have made it yet it is there all the same. Similar to the Etheral plane it is somewhat adjacent to the Prime plane and in some areas the separation is quite thin.

Ever Changing

It seems to shift and slide around Eglorix. A place where you can travel freely between may only exist for a short time, may go to a different place each time, or may return you somewhere entirely different. The geography of the plane loosely matches the areas on Eglorix it is adjacent to but can go to extremes. Where the forest in Eglorix is a three day journey to cross, in Efeaven it could be just a copse of trees or a dense forest with no end or change from one to the other. Disturbances on Eglorix make their way into Efeaven, for instance, the Desolation in Guiden, the Chaos Maw, Chasm of Quantral have similar yet more extreme versions.

Inhabitants

The creatures and peoples that inhabit this realm, much like the realm itself, often have similarities to Eglorix. There are some Elven cities and a few dwarven holds, but most of Efeaven is sparsely populated. Outside those few cities and holds Efeaven is wilderness and the inhabitants are creatures and peoples of unique power and often brutal savagery. Things never seen or dreamed of in Eglorix live in the wilds but it is not a lawless land. For those creatures that are more than animals, and some that are, serve the rulers of those lands and are bound by the Tradition of Efeaven.

Rulers

The Lands of Efeaven at ruled by a particular Baron. Each one has its own disposition and power in their land and all of Efeaven. The boundaries of each Baron's territory are mostly stable and they haven't changed significantly since the Barons came to power.

The Nature of Efeaven

Scholars believe that Efeaven is a plane that is primarily composed of arcane energy. It is the Barony of Efeaven that stabilizes and controls the wild nature of plane and without them, it would be completely unpredictable. Some belive that all arcane energies are drawn from the plane and have the desire to return, thus the temporal nature of the arcane.   There are some creatures that are in tuned enough with the plane that they are able to move from Efaeven to the Prime plane and back seemingly at will. These creatures often draw their powers from their home plane and their motives can be unpredictable. These creatures are the source of many fairy tales and stories in the villages and woods around Eglorix. Some of these creatures are bound to the thinner areas where the planes meet to guard the way and prevent anything from coming in or out.

Incursions

Over the ages there have been some incursions, often it is misguided inhabitants of Eglorix seeking power and willing to go to extremes to get it. There are many histories that include stories of rapid rises to power or strength that can be attributed to arrangements with one of the Barons. They are usually accompanied by a similarly rapid or tragic descent. On a few occasions, groups from Eglorix have attempted to conquer to control parts of Efeaven. All known historical attempts have ended tragically. Similarly, any incursion from Efeaven into Eglorix has similarly failed though the ambitions of the inhabitants of Efeaven are hardly ever as grandious.   The origins of the Elven cities and Dwarf holds in Efhaven have been lost. It is believed that they have either always been there or operated through some agreement with a baron. These establishments have been in Efeaven long enough that they are simply part of it and their citizens have been changed and are now natives of Efeaven.

Legend and Lore

There is much more legend and myth regarding Efeaven and little verifiable lore. That is not to say much hasn't been written about it but it seems that seldom is any one person's experience the same. There have been many attempts to map Efhaven but the every changing landscape makes any accurate maps nearly impossible. There are some individuals that seem to have an innate knack for navigating Efeaven typically this is due to having a native in their lineage. Occasionally their services can be hired for a price for those willing to make an expedition or trying to quickly cross large distances or avoid arguably more dangerous areas. During the age of isolation this was one of the few ways to move from continent to continent. This was somewhat popular in the Fallion Archipelago  to move from isle to isle. Some of the paths became relatively safe and established in that region.

Rumor

It is rumored that the Huer Empire experimented with trying to travel through Efeaven to further their conquests. This failed miserably after discovering the natives of Efeaven universally hate the undead and their armies were decimated and this plan was abandoned. Some say, however, it wasn't a total failure, there have been reports of strange creatures and warriors in Fallion working or allied with the Huer.
