Saint Kaul "Forgebound"

Kaul Forgebound

Overview:
The Forgebound is a legend of an ancient dwarf blessed with divine purpose. He is a story that dwarves tell to educate their children on commitment and the benefits of finishing tasks they set out to do. The Forgebound is known as a myth or legend and no one known prays to the Forgebound, but many give him homage.

History:
In the second Age, when O'hl created the new pantheons of all races, he chose the very best of the dwarves to helm and guide their brethren through this new world. As he ascended the dwarves, O'hl gifted Grumbarr the sight to look forward to the future, and see where his people may end up. Grumbarr found certain items that he would deem necessary to the future of Dwarfdom.

Grumbarr reached to Edus, and watched his people working, eating, fighting, forging. Grumbarr paused on a lone dwarf, toiling away at a forge with three other forges behind him. The multitasking of this dwarf amazed Grumbarr and watched as hundreds of other smiths and forgers worked to follow the work ethic of this lone dwarf smith. When the Dwarf took a break to sleep, Grumbarr appeared to the dwarf. He asked for the dwarf's name, but instead, called him a newname-title of Kaul. He named this dwarf Kaul and tasked him with an important quest.
Kaul was tasked in finding a strange stone that fell to Edus when the portals opened and the original dwarves stepped through to Edus. These stone were from another world and held magical otherworldly power. Grumbarr called the mineral "dragonstone." Kaul was told to find this dragonstone and collect it in a specific place. It took Kaul decades but finally collected every bit of dragonstone he could find. once he gathered at the spot, he found a forge had been created, presumably by Grumbarr, and he was told to "Forge the Dragonstone and let your creativity guide you."

Kaul Chained himself to this forge with chains made of dragonstone, and swore to Grumbarr he would not rest until he forged every bit of dragonstone. He claimed to grumbarr that his word swore him to commit to this act until he died or the task was done. This forge was the only thing that could melt and soften dragonstone enough to make it pliable to be forged. Kaul forged swords, axes, armor, helms. Kaul forged greaves and shovels, pickaxes, shields and tools. he continued to forge, working tirelessly for years, on this mystic forge, which seemed to be made of the same dragonstone Kaul worked on.

As Kaul worked, faithful priests and other artisans came to the forge and slowly began to build a circular stone fortification around Kaul. Protecting Kaul from the elements, predators and others looking to steal dragonstone items, the faithful of Grumbarr built an entire dome around the forge and Forgebound Kaul and then began piling dirt and rocks around the dome, burying him within the earth. Soon Kaul was within a massive hill, with trees and bushes and hidden indistinguishable as any other hill. Soon the Hill was lost to time and the location hidden or taken to the graves of the priests that sealed Kaul the Forgebound and his forge. Kaul slept within the dome and with his forge he was chained to.

Legend of Kaul has been lost, but many dwarves know the bedtime story of "The Forgebound" which became a parable to explain commitment and promises made. Dwarves call something rare or hard to find "rare as dragonstone", as a throwbackto the story of Kaul, which many think is a false legend to be a parable to commitment.

Dragonstone:
Dragonstone is an ore formed from another world, that came through celestial portals from the dwarven homeworlds.it is not native to Edus and is proof of other worlds. The dragonstone is beyond even granite and bluestone in terms of hardness, and there is no known fire hot enough to forge this stone on Edus, save for The Altar-forge of the Forgebound. rumors say it was forged only by a dwarf of legend. They say weapons made from this material are especially powerful versus dragons. Armor made from it is said to give increased resistance to their magic and breath weapons. This is part of what gave the ore it's name, plus not even dragon fire could melt the ore.

There are items, out in the world of Edus that were forged by the Forgebound. These items are beyond exceedingly rare, but come in many different designs and forms.
Swords, Shields, armor, helmets, axes, speartips, arrowheads, bracers, paldrons, greaves, knives, forks, spoons, plates, medallions, pots, large frying pans, cauldrons, and even statues of dwarven gods have been known to exist. No one known can claim to hold one of these items, but most suspect they were hoarded into dragon's dens during the Age of Deceit.

Recent Rumors:
Recently, there have been rumors among the dwarves of the iron Jager Halls and further north of a paladin, claiming to be loyal to the Forgebound and holding an oath to the legend. This rumor has yet to be confirmed, but there seems to be at least one dwarf in Edus looking to Elevate and Honor the Forgebound.
