Bastardfolk

With such an adaptable physiology, Soulborn relations with other direct descendants of the ancient primordials often results in offspring that are a mixture of both species. Bastardfolk, also called half-breeds, are frequently treated as second-class citizens and bullied for being different, especially if they are they are half-culled and half-progeny. This kind of constant adversity forges some half-breeds out of stronger metal, and fractures others. A few very rare half-breeds are raised in loving, caring communities where their differences are celebrated rather than shunned or laughed at. Whatever the case, a half-breed's mixed heritage is often a defining feature of their personality and worldview.   Some example bastardfolk:
  • Dhampirs are the result of vampires breeding with other Soulborn (usually elves, shadar-kai, or aasimar)
  • Mul are the result of dwarves breeding with other Soulborn (usually goliaths, trollkin, or aasimar)
  • Mongrels are the result of Orcs breeding with other Soulborn (usually whatever they have managed to capture... and aasimar)
  • Peredhil are the result of elves breeding with other Soulborn (usually halflings, merfolk... or aasimar)
  • Quarts are the result of halfling and dwarf parents (maybe aasimar, too)
  • Gremlins are the result of goblins breeding with other small races (usually ikwiikwii, gnomes, or halfings... also aasimar)

Genetics and Reproduction

It is extremely rare for a half-breed to enter into a relationship with another half-breed. In these cases only half-breeds of the same type can produce offspring, which is always the same type of bastardfolk as the parents. Half-breeds who have children with other species produce offspring of the same species as the non-half-breed parent.

Beauty Ideals

By some quirk of genetics, bastards are almost universally seen as more beautiful and exotic than most any other member of either parent species. They often have nearly perfectly symmetrical features and perfect bodily proportions.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Bastards generally adopt the social structures of their parents and the society they were raised in.
