Truespeaking

Truespeaking is an uncommon form of magic that is practiced by those with the patience to learn this highly disciplined craft, even those who aren’t spellcasters. Practitioners of Truespeak are known as ‘Truespeakers.’ These Truespeakers are generally held in high standing by their societies. They may hold positions as advisors, champion warriors, archmages, or any other number of respectable titles. Every race has their own special Truespeak powers. These generally are a reflection of the race’s most primal and ancient histories and behaviours. The secrets of unlocking the powers of each Truespoken power are generally jealously guarded by the practitioners of that power. Some practitioners are not as covetous when it comes to these powers. These Truespeakers are known as the ‘High Speakers’ and are among the most powerful and knowledgeable experts of Truespeaking in the world. Every five years, the High Speakers allow new apprentices to join them and study under them. Many Truespeakers travel to the Hold of the High Speakers to seek their patronage and teachings. Only a small handful of these students are allowed in and given the training and tutelage that they seek.

Manifestation

Every Truespoken power has a different effect, and as such, they all manifest differently. The one common feature between all of the Truespoken powers is that they appear from the Truespeaker's mouth as the last word leaves their lips.

Some practitioners have a latent talent and are able to manifest some abilities without practice, though their abilities generally don’t grow beyond minor powers without proper training and practice. Truespeaking is the empowerment of ancient words of a specific language. Each race has their own ancient forms of Truespeak that all manifest different effects. Most Truespoken powers consist of three words - although some have more and others have less. Regardless of the amount of words in the specific power, they can all be used with less words but at the cost of a dampened effect.

Discovery

Truespeaking was first used and discovered by the people of Leikskalar hundreds of years ago to fight off the large dragon population that made its home there. The specifics of this discovery are lost to time, though it is theorized that one of the gods of the northlands bestowed the secrets of Truespeak upon the bravest warriors who opposed the dragons.
