Sandmaw
Sandmaws are giant worms that burrow beneath the dunes and sands of the desert and burst out to surprise their prey - whose flesh they quickly strip away with their namesake attack, a high-powered blast of superheated sand. An attack from a sandmaw can decimate an unsuspecting merchant caravan in but a few moments, leaving behind nothing but a few regurgitated bones - along with some hair - from their victims. It is for that reason that these beasts are among the most feared creatures of the dunes.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Sandmaws are much like worms in the fact that they invertebrates and as such lack a skeletal structure. Unlike worms, however, their skin is hard almost like scales or an exoskeleton. They also have special organs within their body that allow them to consume and process sand so that it may be superheated and fired at enemies.
Biological Traits
Sandmaws have large, gaping mouths that are filled with massive, razor sharp teeth. They also are able to consume sand, heat it to scalding temperatures, and shoot it with deadly accuracy.
Ecology and Habitats
Sandmaws are naturally found in the desert continent of Sahrajha.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Sandmaws are carnivores, eating the flesh of anything that comes near them while they wait in the cool dunes.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Sandmaws are able to sense the vibrations of moving objects and creatures through the sand. They use this ability to hide in the dunes and wait for their prey to come to them.
