Relithos
Relithos
Overview
Relithos is a theocratic city-state that was founded in the year 1098 of the first era. Relithos is accepting of all different faiths so long as its worship is focused on an actual god. The acceptance of all of these faiths stems from the reasons behind Relithos’s founding - religious persecution.Demographics
Relithos is very accepting, with people from all over Edradus making their homes here. While a majority of the inhabitants of the city are human, there are many elves and dwarves that live here, as well as many exotic races and races that are widely considered to be savages, such as orcs and goblins.
Government
Relithos is run by the Godspeaker. The Godspeaker is elected by the high priests of each religion present in town from amongst themselves to serve as the Godspeaker until they either die, choose to cede from the position, or have their rule revoked by the gods themselves. The high priests serve as a council under the Godspeaker, who serve as advisors as well as other roles as decided by the Godspeaker.
Defences
Relithos is quite well defended. Surrounding the city is an imposing stone wall. The entrance to the city has a large portcullis made from adamantine and forged by a high priest of the forge that is guarded by a small unit of paladins.
In times of war, the city is able to raise up a sizeable force of clerics and paladins to decimate enemy forces with their holy wrath. The high priests and Godspeaker will also contribute to the defenses themselves. Any saints will also be called in to help defend the city, supplying Relithos with even more power. There are only five saints at the moment. They are Hefthrol Gurzag the Saint of Fury, Elsieth Thariond the Saint of Divination, Dorman Kelith the Saint of the Winds, Grimni Halfhammer the Saint of the Forge, and Dugal Hamnor the Saint of Darkness.
History
In some villages and towns, people would be driven out or even killed for having the ‘wrong’ religious ideologies. Eventually, Relithos became a place of acceptance for these outcasts. Unfortunately, trade from the other towns began to slow down and, eventually, stop. That is until Jalos Kelvenarm, the Archpriest of Pelor, had a vision from his god telling him that he and his town’s people had a right to not be treated this way. With a new zeal, Jalos rallied the other priests in town and together they were able to convince the people to fight for their right to worship their gods. Jalos, now backed by a force of powerful divine magic users as well as hundreds of civilians, with varying degrees of combat training, brought his people’s cause to the Archduke of Daledale himself. Not wishing to lose hundreds of his own people’s lives over a single city, the Archduke allowed the people of Relithos to govern themselves.
