Khar-Garom

Demographics

A majority of the individuals living in Khar-Garom are mountain dwarves, but a number of members of the other dwarf subraces make their homes here alongside some vect and human craftsmen.

Government

The government of Khar-Garom has historically been a monarchy, however, this changed after Metal Ox slew the royal family. Now, Khar-Garom is a smithocracy. The twelve greatest dwarven smiths in the city form a council and decide how to run things by putting them to votes. Ties are broken by Metal Ox after he has been informed of the situation.

Defences

The city is protected by a tall and well-fortified stone wall and steel portcullis. The guard force of the city is also abnormally well-equipped because of the numerous forges that provide the council with arms and armor to outfit the guards with in return for currying favor among the rulers.

Infrastructure

Khar-Garom boasts the largest and most varied amount of mines that carve minerals out of the mountains and bring them back to the city for refinement at the many blast furnaces and forges found at nearly every turn. Interestingly, the dwarves also farm a plot of land that was enriched by Driggag Vokalen during his first visit to the hold. In honour of him after his ascension to godhood, the dwarves began to grow a special type of tree called the ironwood tree, so-called for the boast that its wood is as tough as iron.

History

During the early days, Khar-Garom was ruled by the Goldaxe clan. The Goldaxes governed Khar-Garom well enough and even oversaw the creation of the constructed labour race, known as the vect, that would eventually be their downfall. The vect named Metal Ox would, in the year 1023 of the First Era, destroy the entirety of the royal family, institute a new form of government, and free the vect race from enslavement. Now, Khar-Garom serves almost as a tributary state to Metal Ox's Iron Isle. The dwarves export copious amounts of various metals to the island as requested by Metal Ox for premium prices.

Points of interest

The main draw of Khar-Garom would be the multitude of metalworkers' shops that can be found throughout the city. As Khar-Garom boasts the best smiths of the realm, they are sure to draw in those that have the most coin to burn on their equipment.

Architecture

The architecture of Khar-Garom is made entirely out of stone, made in a methodically planned fashion as is traditionally found in many dwarven settlements.

Geography

Khar-Garom is situated upon the peak of Boxsor Mountain in the Ice-Crowned Peaks.

Natural Resources

The dwarves of Khar-Garom boast that any mineral can be found within the mines of their mountain range and, as it would seem, this boast appears to be true. The dwarves mine various stones and metals from within the depths of the mountains.
