Ixathar, the Void Valley
Geography
The geography of Ixathar is varied. A majority of the landscape is covered in a hilly forest. The far west was reduced to a blasted wasteland after the Crimson Dragons dropped an explosive that was empowered with a variety of magical effects upon the land there. The remainder of the land is a flat plain of dirt.
Localized Phenomena
The land of Ixathar is affected by some ancient magic which causes time to flow differently there than in the rest of the world. For every ten days spent in Ixathar, only one day will have passed in the rest of Edradus. Thick mists are also known to roll through the hills, limiting vision or even rendering those in the hills blind while they remain.
Fauna & Flora
The local flora of Ixathar consists mostly of deciduous trees as well as grass in the hills. The fauna is much more varied. The sentient beings that call Ixathar home are the mist elves, death giants, trolls, and mindflayers. Other creatures, such as the dreaded disenchanter, dwell in the Void Valley. Most of the other inhabitants are more mundane beasts, such as deer, goats, and rabbits, though it is not unheard of for giant animals to be spotted roving through the hills.
History
Ixathar is a place regarded by most as mysterious and deadly. Very few who enter the Void Valley return alive. Fewer still return as the same person as they entered. In recent history, only seven adventurers have ever successfully made excursions into Ixathar and returned alive.
The adventurers who have returned from the Void Valley bring information that has likely long since been antiquated as the 200 years since their travels have been 2000 in Ixathar. What little the adventurers learned has been recorded into various historical tomes and treatises. The Crimson Dragons noted that there were three main powers that lived in Ixathar. First was the mist elves, a subsect of the elven population that made their home in the Void Valley millennia past and had adapted to survive there; the second was the death giants, a type of giant that bore a grim and gaunt appearance and who had significant power over necromantic forces and the spirits of the dead; and third was the local mindflayer colony which was led by a dragon that had undergone ceremorphosis called a brainstealer. These powers also shared the land with a few minor factions. These factions included a tribe of trolls, an order of paladins called the Brotherhood of the Endless Night, and an evil forest of living trees collectively referred to as the Forest that Walks.
The Crimson Dragons partook in the devastation of the Forest that Walks by creating and deploying a powerful magical explosive to eliminate the threat in return for the Brotherhood of the Endless Night's help. Unfortunately, upon their arrival back at the tower of the brotherhood, the paladins were attacked by the Dark Druid's forces who had come to retrieve the Chronicle of Ascension. The Crimson Dragons fought back but were unable to win. This resulted in the brotherhood being destroyed, as well as the capture of the Chronicle of Ascension and the Crimson Dragons.
