Heart of the Forest
History
Hearts of the Forest are wooden hearts harvested from plant dragons who have grown old and powerful enough to cause a forest to grow around their lair as they slumber. Even after removal from the dragon's body, a Heart of the Forest continues to beat. Certain druidic rituals, both of evil and good natures, call for the use of a Heart of the Forest to complete. Removing the heart of a plant dragon that has cultivated a forest causes the forest to begin to die. After the forest has died, the plant dragon finally dies as well. If its heart is returned before the death of its forest, the dragon is returned to life and the forest grows back to health.
Notably, the Crimson Dragons adventuring party had a Heart of the Forest in their possession after liberating it from a Dark Druid courier. The Crimson Dragons eventually found the location of the forest that was dying due to the loss of its heart and thus they returned it, saving the forest and the plant dragon who lived within it.
