Faelyn Zinbella

Zinbella is an elf (now ice elf) that was born to a family of mages, who weren't around to nurture him when he was able to take care of himself. He never played with the other children, as he preferred to experiment with his toys (meaning either breaking them open or examining them), and when he was of age, he went to a college of magic. There, he would be at the top of his class, performing his tasks almost perfectly, and had multiple apprenticeships. Despite his talents, he was also known for his unapologetic nature and cold tone (mostly to his peers). 
He would graduate and go on to do research on mana at one of Ishmaltal's most famous colleges of magic, but then the collapse happened. While the chaos consumed the empire, but with the now-destroyed tree being exposed, Zinbella thrived in this environment. With the Anti-Magic Material (AMM) at his disposal, he and the other mage scientists began studying the material and its properties, and discussing if this is even something they should tamper with. Zinbella's expertise in magic helped pave the way for many of the applications of anti-magic, and he was not as hesitant with the moral questions that were brought up with using the AMM.
Zinbella's interest in the AMM is puzzling to most, and whenever asked about it, he expressed that he only wishes to "explore the unknown", and never elaborates beyond that. His curiosity has led him to, however, use live subjects for his experiments (including some of his own peers) and many died to bring about the advancements of anti-magic tools and such. Despite such a high body count and him being a mage, the government promoted him to Head magic scientist, and is now in charge of overseeing research of magic throughout the empire, the maintenance of AMM used by the inquisitors, and conducting research on anti-magic. Many within his workspace (or anyone that knows him in general) note his warm demeanor toward everyone, his general attitude is all business but also friendly, and he has a truly terrifying presence when he enters the room. Many give him the nickname "Servant of Ishtamal", as many of his subjects die that many think that he was sent by the goddess of death.
