Rune Magic
Properties
Material Characteristics
A strange, orange hued crystal object found in various sizes, but typically the size of a dwarf's hand.
The crystal resonates with a slight hum.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Crystallized stone
Has a combustive reaction to fire.
Becomes "energized" when exposed to lightning. Too much can make it unstable and volatile.
Geology & Geography
Found deep underground mostly within The Burning Peaks.
History & Usage
Discovery
Discovered by a dwarf miner named Darfud Coalbraids in 585 AR.
Industrial Use
Inventors, Brightridge and Dewflare, found a way to subdue and stabilize the innate magic within to create a power source for their inventions. The process they use is a closely guarded secret so that they may maintain their monopoly.
Manufacturing & Products
All RuneTech products and devices are powered by Rune Magic.
This includes airships, the engines lifting Tempeste & Borealis to the skies, and most notably the sentient Warforged construct race.
Hazards
Refining this material can be quite dangerous. It does not react well to fire like an ore would and lightning can have an interesting positive effect, but too much can be explosive. Finding the right amount is what most believe Brightridge & Dewflare Inc have been keeping a secret.
Distribution
Trade & Market
The mining and merchant guilds in Ironmore sell the raw resource most commonly to Brightridge & Dewflare Inc. to refine.
Rune Magic itself is quite exotic but not useful to the common person. RuneTech, however, is highly sought after technology and has produced many improvements and innovations.
