Rowland City
Rowland City is the capital city of the Kingdom of Rowland. It is home to the Palace of the Grand Prince, where the Grand Prince of Rowland resides, as well as all 20 members of Rowland's Ruling Council. Even though it is Rowland's capital, it is by no means the most prosperous city. The city is only populated by the wealthy and the poor, and there is no one in between. The wealthy tend to lie in the interior of the city and tend to be merchants and politicians, while the poorer and lower classes lay within the outer regions of the city and are everyday workers, and farmers trying to get by. Rowland City is also home to the Ugly Duckling Tavern.
Demographics
The wealthier citizens --such as merchants, politicians, scholars, and artisans-- live within the interior of the city. In the outer region of Rowland City and passed the walls live the poorer citizens; who are mainly farmers, laborers, and peddlers.
Government
Rowland City is unique in that it has three forms of government present throughout the city:
- Grand Prince & Ruling Council: The Grand Prince is the country's head executive. He's an elected monarch with the power to create and enforce laws. Those laws must be brought through and passed by the Ruling Council.
- Governor: In the chain of authority, the governors are next in line after the Ruling Council. The governor's job is to keep stability within the region and to enforce whatever laws the Grand Prince has created. Governors are also poised to be future members of the Ruling Council.
- Mayor: As for local government the mayor of Rowland City is in charge of keeping the city together. The mayor's job runs along the same lines as that of the governor but at a local level.
Defences
Rowland City has been subject to numerous sieges from Lerwick, Calanais, and Skara Brae, and the city has been successful in fending off every single one. The city's architects and engineers tirelessly work to constantly improve the city's defenses in the case of a future attack.
