Nosferatu

(a.k.a. King of Vampires, Night's Embrace, Son of Darkness, Lord of Vampires, Lord of the Night, Eternal Shadow, Father)

After the events of the Calamity, the Kingdom of Borith was reduced to ruin. In its wake, a frozen wasteland emerged where dark and terrible creatures rose from the depths. One of these was the first of his kind, the Nosferatu, the first vampire. Nosferatu held sway over all vampires, ruling them as their progenitor and king. He created the other vampiric bloodlines, terrorizing the north and the night. Growing in power, he was thought to be invincible until his untimely demise at the hands of one of his own...

Personal history

It is rumored that Borith's once wise kings sanctioned the practitioning of dark magic in order to further their aims. Ironically, this did no such thing and brought the kingdom's ruin. Overnight, the kingdom was destroyed, and the continent of Laurentia was left shattered. Earthquakes and floods ravaged the lands as mountains crumbled. Sections of the continent fell underneath the sea and Borith was no more. This apocalyptic event was known as the Calamity. From this crumbling ruin, a dark and powerful being emerged.   Borith was reduced to an empty wasteland full of harsh cold and vicious monsters. The events of the Calamity were so tremendous that it brought the Ten Demon Kings out of the Abyss and into the Material Plane. These beings were defeated, and once they were that is when Nosferatu emerged. It is unclear when vampires and the Nosferatu truly emerged. Some historians and scholars believe he existed before the Calamity, hiding in the shadows, waiting for his time and sprung upon the opportunity in which the Calamity presented itself. Others say he was a prodcut of the Calamity, created by the dark magic that brought it about. An unintended aftermath. Whatever the case, he rose to establish his dominion of death.    His first disciples and "children" were the progenitors of the seven great vampiric bloodlines. His first converts were Raban Bathory, Grimwald Dracul, Ingo Holzhausen, Kuno Orlok, Horst Schwarzenbach, Engenulf von Halter, and Luther von Kirchenstein. These seven would create the vampiric bllodlines which would go on to establish the Vampiric Aristorcracy. These vampire lords established their newfound dominion over the Northern Wastes, ruling the night in the name of their "father," the first vampire, Nosferatu. Nosferatu was a great practitioner in magic, amassing a library of vast knowledge, full of books and scrolls in a variety of language. His was the knowledge of immortals, his ultimate goals a mystery even to those closest to him.   Nosferatu would become particularly impressed with a vampire fledgling who came into the von Halter bloodline. This knew foundling was known as Conrad. Conrad's power began to grow quite rapidly and Nosferatu took an interest in the newly turned undead. Conrad's thirst for knowledge rivaled that of the vampire king himself. Nosferatu would occasionally foster that curiosity, taking him on as a pupil from time to time to show him the ways of magic. As powerful as Nosferatu was, he was blind to the political games being played within his Court of Night.   The Bathory and von Halter bloodlines became heated rivals over the years, jockeying for power and prestige in the eyes of their lord. This wold soon spell his doom. It is presumed that Jorg Bathory, hegemon of his bloodline, killed the Nosferatu in a move to gain power. Nosferatu was found in his chambers, as nothing but a dusty burnt skeleton within his blood-red robes. Conrad accused the Bathorys of murder, and not long after, Conrad's benefactor and leader of the von Halter bloodline, Dagfinn, was found murdered as well. This sparked a centuries long conflict known as the Vampric Civil War. The Nosferatu's death a catalyst for the things to come.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Nosferatu's true motivations were never made known or public, even to those closest to him. He liked to acquire immense amounts of knowledge to serve his own goals, but to what degree no one is certain.

Representation & Legacy

Even after his death, Nosferatu is revered in an almost divine reverence by the rest of vampiric kind. He is after all, the creator and progenitor of their race. In life, it is recorded that vampires respected him above all else. He created their laws with the Code of Night, establishing the norms and customs of their people. His death is seen as a tragedy and terrible loss. Many vampires still invoke him today, almost as if he is a diety watching over his creations.
