(a.k.a. Witch of the Wilds, Cold Fury)

Her name is uttered in hushed whispers, careful that it isn't too loud in the fear it may draw her presence. For a time, she made Laurentia hold its breath, waiting for her fury to drop like a hammer upon an anvil. Even though she is gone, her legacy lives on. Her name is tucked away, or marked out in historical tomes. She is sometimes mistaken for other hags, because her power was so great, she became an embodiment of their evil. She is the Witch of the Wilds, the Cold Fury. She is Hallgerd.

Special abilities

In spending her time with the hag coven, Hallgerd was able to hone her innate magical abilities. Some of Hallgerd's most basic magical abilities were commanding animals, raising the dead, altering her appearance, blasts of eldritch energy, and paralyzing people in place. Some of her more advanced powers involved controlling the weather, shooting lightning, fire, ice, and bestowing curses.

Specialized Equipment

Hallgerd carries around a staff that is a focus for her magical powers. She was also known to wield it as a weapon, and the tips of her staff were dipped in deadly poison.

Personal history

Hallgerd was a witch of Pictish and Skofnung origin. Who her parents were or where she was born isn't known, but as a child she and her family were attacked by a coven of hags. Hallgerd's parents were killed and when the witches were about to eat her, Hallgerd had an outburst of magic. Showing much promise, the hags decided not to eat the young girl and trained her in their ways. When Hallgerd was old enough and had honed her powers with great skill, she avenged her family by killing the hags that had raised her. Taking her hate and rage out onto the world, Hallgerd ravaged the countryside and her power drew many followers to her. Hallgerd's destructive path would come to an end as she was defeated by a paladin named Irven Ward, and a group of blood hunters. She was slain and her body was divided into five pieces and were spread throughout the continent of Laurentia. If these pieces should ever come together again…oh how the world would tremble…
Around 400 years later, a mysterious individual known as Karney, tried to gather the pieces of Hallgerd in an attempt to resurrect her. He tried enlisting a group of adventurers known as The Guardsmen to help him in his endeavor, telling them that Hallgerd was his wife, and he was simply trying to lay her to rest. This ruse didn't last long, as Karney was found out and killed. The Guardsmen later destroyed the remnants of Hallgerd's body, now making her possible return impossible.

Education

At a young age, Hallgerd was kidnapped and raised by a coven of hags. While she was with them she learned a myriad of magical abilities that she could hone and perfect.

Mental Trauma

Seeing her family butchered, then being taken in by a coven of hags is enough to traumatize any child. Let alone any mortal being. Even though the hags kept her alive, training her to be the best witch that ever was or will be, no one can really say what horrors the young Hallgerd had to partake in, or witness, that may still haunt her to this day.

Motivation

Hallgerd was angry at the world. Angry for what had happened to her parents, and angry at what had happened to her. Once she had killed the hags who had raised her, Hallgerd went on a vengeance ride taking it out on anything and anyone. She simply wanted to watch the world burn, and everyone else in it.

Karney stated that he was her husband. Whether this was true or not isn't truly known. He may have been her familiar, or he might've been both. Either way, he showed an extreme amount of loyalty to her, and his exact role in her life will never be fully known.
