Father Grimolt

Father Timothy Bretel

Wandering the northern reaches of Laurentia, is a zealous religious cult dedicated to the god Lugh. Their leader is a tower of a man, strongly built, charismatic, and zealous. He leads this rabble, believing that he can save all mortal kind in the awaited preparation for his god's return. Most scoff, making fun, and brush aside this idea or notion. But they fail to realize who they do this in front of. Father Grimolt may have come to save them, but that doesn't mean he will. Mock Lugh, and the spear of the sun will fall in righteous anger upon the heathens. This is Father Grimolt's way. A way to salvation paved in blood and fear.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Father Grimolt is a tall and imposing figure. He stands well above six feet, and is built with muscle. He adorns himself in special priestly robes while wielding a great-hammer.

Special abilities

Being an acolyte of Lugh, and having been educated in a temple of Lugh, Grimolt had access to many different books and manuscripts. Through these he was taught several magical spells which he used to help who he deemed worthy, and hurt those who stood in his way.

Specialized Equipment

Other than his trusty great-hammer, Father Grimolt also came into possession of a magical item. This item was the Blaze Gauntlet. It was a metal gauntlet or glove, that one could wear and cast fireballs at their opponents.

Personal history

Father Grimolt was born Timothy Bretel in the Kingdom of Hebrides. Timothy never knew his parents but he grew up on the outskirts of Tilnep, raised by a man he knew as Uncle Angus. Whether Angus was really Timothy's uncle or not, he didn't really know, or care. Even though Angus put a shabby roof over Timothy's head, he had a tendency to neglect the boy, and often spent all his earnings on alcohol. There were times where Uncle Angus would be gone days at a time and the young Timothy would have to burn the only furniture he and his uncle had to stay alive. Furious and in a drunken rage, Angus would return from his outings and beat the boy for burning their belongings. Eventually having enough of the boy, Angus gave Timothy to the Temple of Lugh in Malmore. While he was there, Timothy became an acolyte to the god of arts, travel, and commerce. Studying and adhering to Lugh's tenants of faith, Timothy eventually rose to become one of his priests and clerics. He became a missionary and saw injustice in the world wherever he looked --remembering his time with his uncle. Timothy soon gathered a following, his words drew crowds, he healed the sick, and the priests at Malmore took notice. One evening while he was praying, Timothy claimed to have received a vision from Lugh himself. The cleric claimed that the god had chosen him to carry out his will on this earth. Becoming ever more fanatical, Timothy told his fellow priests that the god referred to him in his visions as "Grimolt" and that is the name that he shall now go by. Receiving more and more visions, Grimolt's longing to purge the world of sin and suffering grew ever more intense and saw it everywhere. Wishing to bring people into the fold, he started persecuting those who didn't follow his teachings. The priests at Malmore tried confronting Grimolt but he struck them down and declared them as sinners. He burned the Temple of Lugh to the ground with all the other "sinners" and "false ones." He left Malmore with his following and traveled north, creating a cult known as the Chosen Ones of the True King. They believe that Lugh shall one day descend and become the king of Edda and sinners must be cleansed to prepare for his arrival. His group traveled north, bringing brigands and orcs into his rabble. He later put the city of Drogstone under siege, and held it under his control until the arrival of a Calaian relief army led by Lord Gruffin Yarwood, and a band of adventurers known as The Guardsmen.    Grimolt and a partial group of his forces retreated into the nearby caves in the Blue Mountains. There, the adventurers found and did battle with the cult leader. Even though Grimolt is a tall and imposing figure, his strength and magic were no use against these heroes. One of the adventurers--a firbolg blood hunter by the name of Kaolin--decapitated Grimolt, and later returned his head to Lord Yarwood as proof of their success.

Education

Grimolt received religious and educational teachings at the Temple of Lugh, in the city of Malmore.

Employment

Grimolt used to be an acolyte of Lugh before he burned the temple to the ground. He then set off as the leader of a fanatical cult dedicated to the same god.

Mental Trauma

Grimolt suffered neglect at the hands of his guardian, as well as physical abuse. This trauma stuck with him during his time as an acolyte as he never fully dealt with it.

Intellectual Characteristics

To call Father Grimolt cunning and devious, would be a bit of an oversight. He's by no means stupid, but he is quick to anger and fury, often letting that cloud his judgement in times of much needed clarity. He's smart enough to read a situation, knowing what needs to happen, but whether he does what is necessary to achieve the outcome is something else entirely.

Morality & Philosophy

Grimolt believes that he is special and chosen in some form or fashion. This has led him to believe that he is above all others in terms of judgement, decision making, and intellect. This holier-than-thou mentality helped fuel his religious fanaticism to make him want to achieve his goal through any means necessary.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Father Grimolt became obsessed with the notion that the god Lugh would come to the material plane and rule over all creation. No one is quite sure how Grimolt came to this conclusion, as that isn't something the followers of Lugh typically believe in. Either way, Grimolt believed that he was chosen as Lugh's emissary, and must prepare Laurentia for his god's return. So, Grimolt set out to purge and cleanse the non-believers in preparation for his deity.
