Conrad von Halter

Nosferatu Conrad von Halter (a.k.a. Lord von Halter, King of Night, the Blood Lord, Lord of Forever)

Up in the far reaches of the north lie the Northern Wastes. A frigid wild wasteland full of enumerable dangers from orc war tribes, goblin war bands, frost giant clans, and a multitude of monsters. But the most deadly dangers dwell within the ruined fortresses that dot the landscape. Inside dwell the vampires. Horrifying blood sucking creatures of undeath, but none are so terrible and powerful as their nightly monarch, the Nosferatu. A being of untold power, who rules the Vampiric Aristocracy with an iron fist. All will kneel or perish in his new world order...

Personal history

It is a mystery as to who Conrad von Halter was before he became the notorious Nosferatu of all vampire kind. No one is sure of where he came from, or if Conrad was the name he was born with. Legend has it, that as boy, Conrad was found roaming through the Northern Wastes. He somehow wound up at the door of Halterstadt Castle, the seat of power for the von Halter Bloodline. The von Halter Clan's leader was a vampire lord by the name of Dagfinn von Halter. Dagfinn was impressed that the boy had survived in such a way by himself and ordered his servants to throw Conrad in the dungeons. He did this partly as a test to see if Conrad could survive, but to also protect him from other vampires who wanted to eat the poor boy outright. Through sheer will alone, Conrad survived Dagfinn's dunegon. The boy wasn't even sure how long he had been in there. After all, the passage of several years is only the blink of an eye to the night's immortal children. Still impressed by the boy's determination, Dagfinn granted Conrad a gift. A gift in blood. Dagfinn had Conrad drink from his life blood, granting him the powers of a vampire.   With his interest in Conrad, Dagfinn took the vampire fledgling under his wing. Even though Dagfinn was not Conrad's biological father, he might as well have been. Conrad certainly thought of him as such. Under Dagfinn's watch and tutelage, Conrad became quite powerful. Conrad had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and drowned himself in histories, lore tomes, and magic. His drive, tenacity, and will was something his fellow vampires often found terrifying. Nosferatu himself started to pay attention to Conrad's power, which caused the von Halter clan to rise in prominence. Conrad was selected by Nosferatu for certain tasks and jobs in which Nosferatu would reward him with even more tomes of knowledge and power to study.    Dagfinn would eventually be murdered by a rival vampiric bloodline known as Clan Bathory. After Dagfinn's death, there was no question as to who would succeed as the next vampire lord of the von Halter Bloodline. With Conrad von Halter at the helm, he used his influence and power to try and bring the Bathory's to justice for the murder of his adoptive father. Nosferatu denied him, saying that there wasn't enough evidence. A short time had passed before Nosferatu himself was found dead.    In a twisted turn of events, the Vampiric Aristocracy had lost the leader of their people. Nosferatue was not just the vampire's only leader, but he was their ancestor, their forbear, the genesis of their race. Who could ever come to replace him? A council was convened by the vampiric elders, and after much debate, Jorg Bathroy was posed to become the next Nosferatu--Lord of Vampires. He was opposed by Conrad, claiming that Jorg had something to do with Nosferatu's murder, just like the murder of Dagfinn. The other prominent vampire clans split into their own factions, choosing sides as to who they would support. The Vampiric Civil War had begun, and there was nothing the vampire elders could do to stop it.    On one side there was Conrad von Halter, who was supported not only by his own clan, but also by the Draculs, Orloks, and the von Kirchensteins. Opposing them, were the Bathorys, Holzhausens, and Schwartzenbachs, along with several other clans. The civil war lasted for almost two centuries with Conrad von Halter emerging from the ashes of war as the new Nosferatu, the new Lord of Vampires.    Conrad von Halter's reign was supreme and he brought the vampires into what they consider to be a golden age. Their influence spread far throughout the Northern Wastes, terrifying all mortals alike. The frost giants retreated into the mountains. Goblinoids and orc war tribes were driven south causing conflict with humans. The elves retreated into their woodland realms, casting protective spells over their homes. The dwarves sealed themselves in their mountain halls, retreating deep underground. Fear was rampant as no one knew when the vampire menace would strike. Conrad recruited servants and minions of all sorts, sending them far and wide to search for items, power, and knowledge. The purpose of these searches known only to Conrad and his inner circle. The rise in vampiric power would come to be a double edged sword. Blood Hunters were summoned from almost every corner to combat the vampires along with paladins and clerics. An unwanted amount of attention was brought to the vampires, and the vampire elders ordered all vampires to retreat, hide, and wait out the storm. Conrad refused.   A paladin in red armor made his way to the Northern Wastes to find the Nosferatu. Upon venturing north, the paladin and Conrad von Halter have never been seen or heard from since...

Education

When he was given the gift of blood, Conrad became a vampire fledgling, under Dagfinn von Halter's tutelage. Through his adoptive father, Conrad learned how to harness his vampiric might and power. Through further training and studies, Conrad became a historian, scholar, writer, poet, linguist, and magician in his own right. His thirst for knowledge was unquenchable. No tutor or lesson could stem or curb his enthusiasm, once he graduated to his own self-education.

Intellectual Characteristics

His knowledge and appetite for knowledge terrified his fellow vampires. Conrad's thirst for the answers to life's mysteries is what drove him to reach new heights of power. He didn't have the ability to just absorb knowledge, but to apply it in life situations. He became a historian, philosopher, politician, and a magician of the highest caliber. He recognizes his strengths and weaknesses, knowing how to maneuver to give himself the best possible outcome. As Nosferatu, he learned to recognize the strengths of those around him, placing them in the best possible position to benefit himself and his aristocracy. He's calm, calculating, observing until he is sure.

Morality & Philosophy

Conrad lives and believes in a world where might makes right. He cast off his shackles of weakness by leaving behind his mortal self. The boy that clawed his way to Halterstadt's door was dead. Dead along with the shame of his weakness. Conrad believes that he can bring an order to the world. His order. The only order that makes sense in his mind. An order ruled by a strong ruler, who has attained his highest form of self. In order to do that, Conrad must cast away the gods. He believes that the gods exist, but he chooses not to listen or follow them. He sees them as restraints. Something holding him back. Once they are gone and he has cast them aside, only then can he become his best self. His truest form of self that is beholden to no one.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Originally, once Conrad had become the Nosferatu of vampire kind, his goal was to rule over the mortal world as the Lord of Night. Using his magical knowledge combined with that of other vampire sorcerers, his goal was to conquer the mortal realms and shroud the sun so his people could hold dominion over the earth. He holds a philosophy of might makes right. Conrad believes that the world should be subservient to his order. The only order that makes sense to him. He believes it is a service to all others, and that it should be achieved through violence and the subjugation of the weak. Once he disappeared, his machinations are unknown.
