Pella

The second largest city in Philippa and the birthplace of both Philip, founder of Philippa and Pella, an ancient hero from the pre-colonial period of the peninsula. Today Pella is the namesake of the city, the river system and the entire peninsula and has been since at least 350 LR.
Pella is a beautiful mountain town on the shores of Lake Bled. At first glance it might seem like a quaint village, but the city is built in and around the dense coniferous forest that grows right up to the shores of the lake. The most visible parts of the city are:
The Rock of Pella, an ancient castle that pre dates even the Finn colonization of Theba.
The Temple of Heliod and Cloister of Friendship, which reside on a small island in the middle of the lake.
The massive dam and waterfront complex at the Southwest end of the lake where a lock and canal system join the Pella River run.
Despite the pastoral mountain aesthetics, Pella is an industry town, acting as a nexus for forestry and mining operations elsewhere in the valley and surrounding mountains. The most noxious of the industrial works have been moved downstream beyond the dam complex where once there was a beautiful waterfall that the lake and river system fed into. Today the waterfall is still there, but to keep the lake from draining entirely into the river, control erosion, and end the seasonal flooding that plagued the city it's carefully controlled, keeping only enough flow over the breast of the dam to hide it from the city's view.
