The Cult of the Shattered Mind

The Cult of the Shattered Mind is less a structured faith and more a collection of those who have gazed too long into the abyss and found comfort in its madness. Many are exiles, prophets of doom, or those who have suffered visions so terrible that they have forsaken reality itself. Some join willingly, seeking forbidden knowledge hidden within the folds of insanity. Others are drawn in through whispers in their dreams, guided by Nighmara’s unseen hand. The Cult’s rituals are grotesque and deeply personal, often involving self-inflicted nightmares, isolation, and exposure to eldritch visions meant to shatter the mind and reshape it in Nighmara’s image. Their greatest sacrament is The Unraveling, a rite where a devoted follower surrenders their sanity completely, allowing their mind to be consumed by the Black Maw. Those who survive this experience often return as broken oracles, their words laced with prophecy and madness alike. Their places of worship are rarely temples in the traditional sense. Instead, they gather in abandoned asylums, forgotten ruins, and deep underground chambers where the walls seem to whisper back. Their presence is rarely announced—one simply begins to dream of them, and in time, the dreams become real.
