The people of Ecario are sometimes born with the ability to use magic, something that is very rare among most races, and so it is usually a coveted trait in most civilizations.
Some races are more likely to have a magical affinity, such as elves or dragonborn and some are less likely to have magical abilities, such as dwarves or halflings.
Magical abilities have formed great empires in the past and present, but are also used to destroy civilizations and people.
Remnants of fallen nations can be found all around Ecario and finding ancient technology from these ruins fuel entire economies of small cities.
