Deserter's Waste

A small expanse of desert to the north of Ecadia known as the Deserter's Waste for it's link with rogueish archtypes.

Geography

A small span of hilly desert flanked by both mountains and dry plains. Minimal fresh water and vegetation. Littered with large stone spires and sandy mounds.

Ecosystem Cycles

The temperature in the desert fluctuates, growing to intense heat during the day and equally intense cold at night. Creatures adapt to this mostly by burrowing, creating underground homes where they are better insulated and can wait out the strong temperatures.

Localized Phenomena

Large stone spires with odd looking engravings sprout in circles of five sporadically through the desert. An odd hum of magic can be felt when within them, creatures of all kinds are drawn to them and sometimes make their homes nearby.

Fauna & Flora

Kruthiks. Purple Worms. Giant Scorpions. Camels. Cacti.

Natural Resources

Sand. Cacti. Desert Fruit and Vegetation. Coastal Fish. Hides.

History

Due to it's remoteness, dangerous terrain and difficult access the once named Ghordrain Desert has always been an atractive force for those who wish to evade scrying eyes, people would flee to the sands across the mountains to start new lives in an almost lawless and unrestricted land. Over time the desert became more and more dangerous to travellers as not only were the roads, weather and terrain difficult to traverse but there were also an abundance of bandits. Scholars and adventurers seeking to study the creatures and pillars would more often than not find themselves held up, robbed or never found again.   Eventually the lawless folk of the Ghordrain desert founded their own towns, recognising that the sands were a dangerous place by themselves they stuck together and created the region of Ghordrain. From there they began to trade with their southern neighbours, although not in high amounts as they preferred their own solitude.   During the great eastern war, after the fall of Avaris, with the people of Brakva realising the inevitability of their own fate many of their military fled, abandoning their people and deserting their posts. Many of these soldiers fled to the northern desert, hoping to make a home for themselves somewhere close by but isolated enough that they wouldn't be hunted for their role in the war. Since those days the region of Ghordrain, in what is now commonly called the Deserter's Waste, has significantly grown in population.

Tourism

Minimal, the reputation of the desert is enough to scare away most travellers baring the boldest of traders and militaristic groups. Those that do visit, do so at either great risk or under the protection of a Ghordrainian resident.
