Morventhal Cave

A sweet luring aroma fills the air, drawing you closer in. Around the opening, you see untouched wild flowers wilting away, with mutated flowers in vivid colors new ones taking their place. The moss has weird glow to it, and you see it growing down into the cave. The floor is soft, and the walls jet black. The further into the cave you come the brighter it gets, mushrooms glowing on the walls.
Once, this cave was a stone wall, a stone wall with a carving. It was said, that when the stone face opened deadly things would escape into the world. No one knew what it meant, but the carving would only appear to those who could read it.

Geography

The opening to the cave is enormous, moss growing above the opening and down into the cave. The cave’s walls are made of black jet, and the this makes the cave darker. Within the cave itself, there are mushrooms illuminating the walls. The caves go deep into the ground, down into the underdark and beyond.

Localized Phenomena

Seeping through from the underdark, a sickly sweet smell can be detected. Mushrooms grow off of the wall that glow and light up the halls of black jet that make up the cave. Spores flow out of the cave, infecting surrounding flora and fauna with a strange disease. This disease causes animals and creatures to mutate the longer they are exposed to the spores. Once in Morventhal Forest, infected beings make their way into the cave, never to return.

History

One day, it appeared. It was as if a great wall crumbled and revealed a big opening that kept on going. Around the same time, spores began to release into the forest. The spores mutated the flora and fauna around it, them turning into glowing creatures that would protect the natural forest. The gnomes living there quickly adapted, using mouth coverings to help stop the infection. For a few years it helped, but animals were disappearing into the cave. Once the first gnome disappeared, they realized they needed a more permanent solution.
