Pyre Spirit

Pyre Spirits are impish creatures whose body manifests as a solid flame. Anatomically, they are reminiscent of faeries or winged elves. Pyre spirits are most commonly born when practitioners of Unhallowed or dark magic are killed via fire. Their souls become split upon death, partially possessed by dark apparitions who take the form of the Pyre Spirit. These creatures are usually born immediately from the flames, or very shortly after death, and rarely manifest after the flames have subsided. This is one reason that many villages do not burn dark spellcasters as a form of punishment, but rather have taken to beheading them. In either case, most villages will hire an Inquisitor or Hunter to oversee the execution.
