Two years ago, 994 YK, the Last War ended when the nation of Cyre was wiped off the face of the world in a magical cataclysm.
The war was the result of a succession dispute following the death of King Jarot in 894, King of the continent-spanning country of Galifar - it spiralled out of control as alliances shifted, claims refuted and battles were lost and won. Galifar split into the Five Nations - Aundair, Breland, Cyre, Karrnath, and Thrane. The Treaty of Thronehold was signed 6 months ago, formally ending hostilities between nations and reestablishing diplomatic relations - at least among those represented at Thronehold.
Every thing and every one is scarred by a century of war, and it’s not entirely sure that this peace will hold. The threat of another cataclysm is barely keeping hotter tempers in check. We are starting in Sharn, the City of Towers. Not the capital of Breland, and not (despite appearances to the contrary) an independent city state. Sharn is about a mile and a half across, and about the same in height. A million people live here - humans, dwarves, elves, goblins, changelings, orcs, halflings and more.
