The Stitched

Born of death and dismemberment, the creation of the Stitched is the epitome of turning a tragedy into hope. When the Tower of the Twelve  fell from the sky on board were hundreds of Dragonmarked thralls of Levistus and a few souls who had been unable or unwilling to leave. In an instant, their life force was extinguished. Moments after that devastation something miraculous happened. The dead were reformed. Their bodies coalesced into new bodies. The Stitched rose from the ashes of that tragedy. A new race, born from death. Their reason for being and method of creation are unknown.

A Choir of Souls

Each member of the Stitched lineage is a collection of those who perished that fateful day. Their bodies are a patchwork of different origins. Orc hands, Dwarf legs, Human arms all combine to form new beings. Because of this, they do not view themselves as individuals, rather they view themselves as a living collective. When a Stitched speaks their voice sounds like dozens of individuals talking at once. They often talk in the third person or use collective pronouns when referring to themselves.

Mark of the Markless

Since the Stitched were created by those who died when the Tower of the Twelve crashed, each of them poses parts of several different Dragonmarks. No Stitched possess a completed version of the recognized Dragonmarks. A small number of Stitched have had their mismatched marks fuse into an Aberrant Dragonmark. There is no pattern to the formation of these aberrant marks. None of them appear to belong to a specific house and the powers granted vary.

Origin Unknown

No one knows how the Stitched came to be. Several scholars have been studying them. There are several theories, but no hard evidence for any of them. Some believe it to be a resetting of the Draconic Prophecy. That the work Galather--and subsequently Levistus--did unbalanced the prophecy and the creation of the Stitched is a supernatural attempt to rebalance it. Others believe that the sheer force of magic released by the deaths of so many Dragonmarked, the destruction of the Tower, the rending of many relics and tomes, and the defeat of Levistus created them. A few even think it could have been one last attempt by Levistus to maintain a presence in the world. There are even rumors that the Mark of Death could be involved. Supporters of this theory think some who possessed the mark survived the genocide and have used the mark's power to create the Stitched.

Stitched Traits

The Stitched have the traits of the Reborn Lineage from Van Richten’s Guild to Ravenloft on D&D Beyond.   When the Faded Memories trait is triggered or the Knowledge from a Past Life trait is used the character will receive a glimpse of the past life of one of those who form their body. It could be a memory or details such as their name or family members. Many Stitched record this information in a journal to pay homage to their “parent.”

Naming Traditions

Unisex names

Since the Stitched are a collection of individuals they often take names that aren’t derived from a particular linage or culture. Some prefer to take names that signify their collective nature such as Choir, Chorus, Band, Populace, Group, Council, etc. Others prefer to use inanimate objects for inspiration such as Chair, Table, Door, Stone, Symbol, etc. There are those that believe they are the embodiment of intangible concepts such as Love, Compassion, Hatred, Revenge, etc. A few eschew the concept of a name altogether and instruct others to refer to them by collective pronouns or simply as Collective.

Culture

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

When the Stitched experience a memory of one of their "parent's" lives they typically will record this information in a journal. They do this to preserve the memory of those who aided in their creation.

Common Taboos

Denying ones' "parents" is considered the greatest of taboos. This encompasses many things: referring to themselves as individuals, neglecting to honor the memory of a "parent" when it is revealed to them, failing to acknowledge that the Stitched are simply the continuation of those that came before.

Ideals

Gender Ideals

The Stitched do not recognize gender because each of them is made up of several individuals.  To recognize a gender would be the deny the parts of those that make them up.

Major organizations

Karrnath Association for the Advancement of Dead People has factored heavily in the integration of The Stitched into society.
