Sons of Siberys

The Sons of Siberys are a grassroots movement who believe that aberrant dragonmarks are the work of demonic forces (Overlords) on the material plane. Led by Ament Leywood, the group has slowly swelled in number, fueled by vitrol and lies spewed by Leywood who has used the "Sons of Khyber" as a scapegoat for many different disasters and hardships.   Fifteen years ago, Ament Leywood, his wife, and two young daughters moved from Wroat to Sharn. Leywood had been invited to work there with a group from Morgrave University to investigate an archaeological find in the Mud Caves. A month earlier, an adventuring group found a series of abandoned tunnels that led deep into the cliffs that Sharn has been built into. The tunnels twisted and turned, terminating at random deadends with little-to-no connecting chambers. Morgrave historians recognized the stonework to be at least a few centuries old, but overall, could not identify the origin of the tunnels' creators. Within the tunnels, they discovered dozens of aberrant dragonmarked individuals that had been preserved in one of the many collapsed tunnels.   Before Leywood and the sages could investigate the location further, a coordinated attack from a gang known as Sons of Khyber attacked the docks at Sharn's Welcome. Leywood and his family were escorted to the southern end of the island and put aboard a ship. But as their ship was leaving the harbor, a man with a flaming arm began throwing fireballs into the ships retreating into the bay. The fireballs were focused on the fleeing ships, and one of the fireballs hit the deck of the ship carrying Leywood and his family to safety. Nearly everyone on board died in the explosion, including Leywood's wife and daughters. Somehow Leywood survived the blast, blown clear of the wreckage. Three days later, Leywood—barely clinging to his life—washed up on a beach near a small fishing village downriver. The injuries Leywood sustained in the blast blinded him in his left eye and impaired the use of his left arm and leg. And the loss of his family and his career fractured his mind. Leywood became obsessed with the idea that what they discovered in the tunnels was somehow connected to the Sons of Khyber attack. With the war in full bloom, none of the Morgrave faculty would support his claims. Eventually, he left the university and retreated south to study privately.   In time, Leywood noticed that there was a connection to aberrant dragonmarked and the tunnels his colleagues had discovered. Under the pseudonym Titos Barakis, Leywood moved to Sharn to follow his conspiracy theory. He believed that the Sons of Khyber assault on Sharn's Welcome, the death of his family, the aberrant dragonmarked, and the tunnels were all somehow connected. Leywood recruited a group of other disenfranchised Brelish soldiers who felt there was something amiss with the aberrants and their resurgence. This group of like-minded individuals named themselves Sons of Khyber. Under Leywood's leadership, the Sons started their research and information gathering out of a dilapidated warehouse in Sharn's Welcome. And now, Leywood is close to getting the answers he craves..
