Skullborn

The Skullborn, also known as the Stillborn, are an elven society from Aerenal. The group originated with the Jhaelian family, which began a practice of body modifications to make their members appear undead. The practice has since spread to a group of young, disillusioned Aereni elves who feel entitled to undergo the Transition ritual and become Undying without earning the honor by the traditional means. These requests have been firmly denied, but this hasn't stopped the society from seeking immortality through less savory means, like vampirism and lichdom. The Skullborn are headquartered in the Hall of the Bereaved, a base hidden beneath the city of Pylas Talaear.

The Skullborn have aligned themselves with the Blood of Vol, which also has agents in Pylas Talaear, in hopes of gaining power or necromantic immortality. Because of this alliance, members of the Skullborn are sometimes accompanied by minor undead. Though this group has its origins in the Jhaelian family, the modern group has few if any connections to the family, who are loyal, law-abiding citizens. However, the family still practices the form of body modification that they now share with the Skullborn.
