Session 4, 9 Therendor 998 YK

General Summary

When looking for a stolen protection payment, the party found itself entering a drinking contest at The Crooked Mirror. When a barfight broke out, Rare was almost beaten to death for using magic in a fistfight. Victorious, the ladies ascended to their rooms while Therin continued to investigate. As the night came to a close, a rough group of orcs, led by a half-orc with a face tattoo threw a bloody changeling into the center of the room. Nailing a bloody eyeball to the door, the half-orc turned to the pale Gray and Mira and said, "I s'pose you know what this means." Before either could respond in the affirmative, the half-orc and his crew were gone leaving the beaten teenager to be tended by the couple.

Sephona the Thief:

Between his own investigations and the assistance from Glittergem the following morning, Therin discovered that Sephona, the teenage changeling that had been brutalized by the half-orc and his crew, was the thief that had stolen Sundry's protection money. Sephona was a recent transplant from Wroat who had impresonated Gorric after meeting him in the guise of another bar patron. Discovering the secret tattoo, she impersonated him and was able to fool Sundry into believing that she (as Gorric) was there to collect the payment.

Saving The Crooked Mirror:

Gray and Mira imparted a box containing 200 galifar, their impressive life savings, to serve as a bribe to let them keep their inn. They asked the party to seek out Cavallah, the leader of the Daask cell in Sharn, and beg the mysterious entity on their behalf. Cavallah was believed to be somewhere in Malleon's Gate or Gate of Gold.   While in Gate of Gold, the party stopped inside a Gold Dragon to see about any clues. The proprietor, a goblin by the name of Tinker, didn't have any specifics but offered some advice on how to handle a threat like Cavallah. Tinker had been an adventurer before returning to Sharn and was more thn excited to talk to the next generation of adventurers as they got their start.   The party left the Gold Dragon and headed into Malleon's Gate, seeking out sources of information. They spoke with Da'an the bugbear shopkeeper, who tells the party that he doesn't know much that he doesn't get from Grigi the Orc. When they exit Da'an's shop they introduce themselves to Bodhrán Moor and Professor Teller from Morgrave University as the firbolg handed out fruit from his small orchard on the university's grounds. Finally the party met and spoke to Grigi the orc prostitute. When speaking to Grigi, they were accosted by her pimp, an ogre named Urk and were forced to kill him. Sending Grigi to stay at The Crooked Mirror, the party took what informtion she gave them to look for more clues.   Following Grigi's clues, the party made their way to the north side of the district. Seeing a hooded figure following them, they challenged it and demanded to know what it was doing following them. The figure was another changeling, introducing himself as only "The Spider". He tells the party that if they speak the phrase "Do not pity the wrathful tyrant" to the minotaur in Cavallah's employ, you will be granted an audience with the enigmatic leader.

Entering “Fine Spirits”:

The shop appeared empty when the party entered, but they discovered that it was guarded by a skeletal artificer and its Expeditious Messengers. Defeating the threat in the cramped and dark shop, Glittergem had a flash of brilliance! She took stock of the parts remaining of her foes and crafted a Homunculus Servant which she then assigned to Therin.

Onward, Upward, and Outward:

Climbing the dizzying staircase, the party found itself in a massive stone furnace heated by pillars of stone. In the back of this sweltering room were two shifters cooking their meal against the pillars. Fearful that the party would either steal their newly obtained loot or turn them in, Click and Clack were cautious when Glittergem introduced herself. When they learned the party had a death wish, however, they were more than happy to point them in the direction of danger.   The way ahead was an exposed bridge that the shifters had only barely made it across using their claws. Over 500 feet in the air and completely exposed to the strong winds tearing between the towers, the bridge was a hazard to cross. Both Rare and Glittergem were thrown from the bridge at one point, the former saved by her imp and Therin and the latter being saved from death by a passing wizard casting Feather Fall. Glittergem was able to rejoin her teammates by mounting a nearby House Orien gryphon. Just as she neared the intersection of bridges, she saw a fireball launched in her direction...
