Central Terminus

The Central Terminus is the house enclave for House Orien found in Passage. It is known throughout Khorvaire for its massive rail yard, but the enclave also has a bustling caravan trade and courier services to nearly every part of Eberron for an appropriate fee.   The entrance hall for the enclave is a three-way lightning rail junction where carriages either continue on their way to either northeast to Fairhaven or southeast to Marketplace. It's a masterpiece and a technical marvel. The Terminus Station was built around the amber egg-shaped gem that powered the manifest zone to Daanvi, the "Perfect Order". This has improved the already impressive precision of the enclave, controlling the minute variables and allowing the techincally saavy minds of House Orien to make the most of their logistical network.   Though this station is owned and operated by House Orien, the artificers and manufacturers of House Cannith are also very important to the continuous operation. At a place called "The Yard" teams of fabricators toil to repair the lightning rail carriages that are being overrused to make up for the many that were destroyed in the days surrounding the Day of Mourning. New carriages, conductor stones, and armored carts are created each week in this artificer's paradise.

    Approaching the Central Terminus

The long low whistle of the shift change wails into the early morning as the weary workers of the Central Terminus begin trudging down the muddy trail toward the massive trainyard. The series of low buildings that support the massive train station at its center are hewn from rough stone and are utilitarian in design. The train station is, by contrast, much larger and set with ornate windows emanating a warm glow against the sky of a cold spring morning. A tall stone archway outlines the doorway to the Central Terminus, crowned with an ornate golden unicorn statuette that appears to be running back at you as you approach. Two massive doors groan as they open, with four men pushing them open from the inside. They nod to some of the better dressed workers, as the more comely looking staff turn to make their way toward the support buildings in the distance.

    The Terminal

Inside the heavy double doors of the Central Terminus, you see a pristine white marble room with a long central staircase leading to an elegant second level. At the base of the stairs is a large amber stone emanating a faint orange-yellow light throughout the large chamber. Large doors, labeled with numbers above the doorframes, lead to the north, east, and south. Above you, on the galley, you can see well-dressed associates of House Orien conversing with each other. A droning voice cuts across the murmurings of the great hall to say "Shift Change will commence in twenty minutes. Greeters, be prepared to increase headcount by six to prepare for Baron Kwanti's arrival at eight o'clock this morning."
The central chamber serves as the gateway to the rest of the Central Terminus. The north door leads to the northern line that continues to Fairhaven, the eastern door leads to the southern line that leads to Marketplace and ultimately to Breland. The southern door leads to the Wagon Station and the Courier's Guild. Upstairs, the doors lead toward the main offices of the disparate guilds that House Orien maintains. Ameer d'Orien, the new Wagonmaster, and Baron Kwanti d'Orien all maintain offices here. Additionally, a central desk is through the eastern doors on the second level, leading to The Hub.

    Wagon Station

The door on the southern side of the building opens up into a long hallway that ends with a large ornate door, with doors on the eastern end. The western wall is covered in portraits of House Orien scions in ornate mahogany frames.
  • The doors to the west open to a massive storage yard filled with the supplies that House Orien expects to ship over the next few days. This area is lightly guarded. A party that wants to steal must pass a DC 14 Dexterity (Slight of Hand) check to quietly pilfer equipment from the storehouse without being found by the guards. Roll a d20, on a 19 or 20 the party finds a pair of boots of levitation and 10d20 galifar worth of silks and fine rings.
  • The portraits to the west are of the House's previous station masters.
  • The door to the south opens to the wagon station, a large awning that covers a row of 30 wagons. Shouting wagonmasters give instructions to weary coachmasters. Beyond the convoy of Orien wagons is a small gathering of riders wearing their leathers and shivering over a game of dice. These are the House's certified couriers.
  • The Hub

Stepping through the door you find yourself on the inside of a hive of activity. House Orien scions can be seen shouting to each other from across the dark hectic room. Orbs float near the Managers that project images from across the Terminus onto the nearby walls. Studious scions watch the walls with great interest looking for inscrutable details. A harried man at a tall desk is being yelled at by three scions as he studies a map.
This compound is more than the massive trainyard it appears to be, housing the support apparatus for House Orien's vast transportation and logistics network. Built around a giant yellow, egg-shaped crystal (a Manifest Zone connected to Daanvi, The Perfect Order) the enclave is a precision instrument maintaining the order of the largest transportation and logistics structure in the known world. Cannith mechanics can be seen in all corners of the main building, and the booming voices of The Managers can be heard giving instructions from The Hub at the center of the Enclave.
