Dal Quor

Dal Quor, the Region of Dreams, is one of the planes of existence in Eberron. It is the plane of dreams, a place formed by imagination, where your memories and emotions can shape reality. Dreams are defined by our experiences and our desires, and unlike the stories of Thelanis, they are unique to us and ultimately fleeting. They give us a space to process the events of the day, and how we feel about them, and they are ours alone.   Ideally, this would be true. However, it is not always true in Dal Quor. The plane is also home to the Quori, the native spirits of Dal Quor. The Quori reflect the nature of the plane, and currently it is a plane of nightmares. They prey on the dreams of mortals, manipulating them to produce the emotions they feed upon, or otherwise manipulating dreams to push events on the material plane in a certain direction.   Dal Quor is distant, the conflict with the giants shattered the link between Dal Quor and the material plane. It's been permanently remote since the destruction of Crya, and no naturally occurring manifest zones to Dal Quor have been discovered. Physical travel to Dal Quor has also been impossible since this event, and spells like plane shift fail when attempting to travel there. There is a way to get there however, mortals do it every time they sleep. Dreaming can be thought of as a form of spiritual travel, and the consciousness of all sleeping beings is drawn to Dal Quor.   Dal Quor has subjective directional gravity, and time passes differently there than it does on the Material Plane (10 minutes on Dal Quor to 1 minute on the Material Plane). Dal Quor is also a highly malleable plane, and can be manipulated consciously or unconsciously by dreamers, the Quori, or outside forces such as the Night Hags.

The Turning of the Age

Dal Quor is shaped by dreams, and the Quori believe that the heart of Dal Quor is itself the dream of an immensely powerful spirit. They call this spirit the Quor Tarai, the Dream of the Age. Every dream ends when the dreamer wakes up, however, and the quori believe that this is true of the Quor Tarai, and by extension, themselves. Thousands of years ago, the giants of Xen'drik fought a war against the Quori, a war that ultimately culminated in the destruction of the moon Crya, and the cutting off of Dal Quor from the material plane. None of the quori remember this war, though, or anything that happened before it. They know that it happened, but it didn't happen to them. They believe that this is because the Quor Tarai came to an end after the war with the giants, the plane woke up from its dream and then immediately returned to sleep, but the dream it began dreaming was a brand new dream, with a brand new cast.   The Quori refer to this event as the Turning of the Age, when the plane itself shifts to embody a new dream, with the current dream and all of it's quori being destroyed and replaced. They don't know how many times this happened before, or what the quori of previous ages were like, but they know it has happened at least once. They also believe that each age has it's own theme, and that the quori embody this theme. The current Quor Tarai is il-Lashtavar, the Great Darkness that Dreams. il-Lashtavar is cruel and malicious, and this aspect of it's being is reflected in the quori that it produced. The Kalashtar believe that the next age of Dal Quor will be an age of light, with dreams filled with hope and compassion. They call this Quor Tarai il-Yannah, the Great Light.

The Ocean of Dreams

Unlike the other planes, Dal Quor is not structured in layers. Instead, it is like a vast ocean, and when a person dreams, they form a small island in that ocean. These islands are shaped by the mortals memories and emotions, and they are destroyed when the dreamer wakes up. Most people cannot leave the island they create when they dream, but someone who lucid dreams can find ways to travel from their own dreams into the dreams of others. This sea of dreams orbits the heart of the Quor Tarai, a stable region of the plane where the quori reside, and the dream islands are roughly related to the location of the dreamers. The dreams of everyone in Breland will be near each other in Dal Quor, though they won't necessarily match the physical locations of each person.   There are a few stable regions within the ocean of dreams, including the Uul Dhakaan.
