Kalashtar

Kalashtar are born with a bond to an otherworldly being, and have memories of lives they've never lived. When they sleep, they don't dream, but they often wake up with a sense of purpose. They look very much like humans, and can blend in with human communities with little trouble if they wish. They are known for their psionic powers, and every member of the species is capable of at least telepathy.   Centuries ago, a group of Quori rebelled against il-Lashtavar, and were hunted across the dreamscape. In their desperation, they reached out to Eberron for help, and they were answered by a group of Adaran monks. In total, 67 Quori spirits escaped Dal Quor and bonded with these monks, and the first Kalashtar were born.   All Kalashtar are descended from these monks. The quori are bound to the bloodlines of the kalashtar, and exists in the minds and dreams of all of their descendents. As long as at least one kalashtar of a particular line remains, the quori spirit endures. They were all born centuries ago, in fact the kalashtar know the exact date that their race came into existence, but they didn't all remain in Adar.   There are kalashtar communities in several of the major cities in Khorvaire, in particular the Overlook district in Sharn, and the district of Whitewalls in Fairhaven. They tend to be insular communities, the kalashtar band together, supporting and protecting each other. They tend to still follow Adaran customs and beliefs, they know of the Dreaming Dark and the Inspired, but they don't deal with the threat as directly as those in Adar do. There is no Riedran army at the gates.   The kalashtar do not follow gods, but instead follow the Path of Light. They believe there is a force of positive energy that they call il-Yannah, and that through meditation they can strengthen their bodies and minds for the struggle against the Dreaming Dark. The bond that kalashtar share with their quori is difficult for other races to understand. They cannot interact with their quori, and they don't experience the bond as a separate entity sharing their heads. Instead, the quori spirit is an integral part of the kalashtar. It grants the kalashtar hazy memories of places they've never been, battles they'd never fought.   This means that kalashtar grow up quickly, the personality and memories of their quori spirits influence them since birth, and it's impossible to say where the quori ends and the human begins. Most kalashtar will never know what life is like without the influence of their quori spirits, and for those that do lose that connection, it is deeply traumatic. The kalashtar refer to this event as "shattering", and communities take it upon themselves to care for kalashtar that have shattered.
