Starharbor
Government
Since the Age of Dread, Starharbor has been governed by the Dawncrest family, which suffered great losses in the fights against the Dark One. They have continuously worked on improving the city's infrastructure and defences, thus earning a great amount of respect from Starharbor's citizens.
With the recent passing of William Dawncrest, Griffin Dawncrest as the only living Dawncrest has taken over governance of Starharbor and things have taken a turn for the worse. Whereas his predecessors were keen on improving the quality of life and the wealth of everyone in Starharbor, Griffin Dawncrest seems to be more interested in stuffing his own pockets. His disposition towards Necromancer Tyrant is unknown.
Defences
With the increase in attacks on Starharbor and the raids on its food supplies in recent years, the walls of Starharbor have been expanded to encompass not just the living quarters but also the craftsmen and farms to secure the food supply. The amounts of guards and patrols on the edges of Starharbor have also greatly increased. In recent years, people from smaller villages have come to the city seeking shelter. While the city has done its best to accommodate as many as possible, it had to start turning people away or risk food shortages and unhappy citizens.
Industry & Trade
Due to direct access to sea trading routes and the fact that Starharbor is one of the bigger cities on Cadalyn, trade is always booming. This is in part also thanks to the many adventurers and travelers stopping in the city. Because of this, Starharbor has always been a wealthy city, even in difficult times. It is the biggest trading hub in eastern Cadalyn, receiving and selling goods from all over the world. This direct access to the ocean also makes for bountiful fishing, making fish one of the staple foods of the city.
Starharbor also houses multiple inns and taverns, catering to all sorts of preferences. From rowdy tavern for sailors to regal Inns for wealthy merchants to a more robust inn for adventurers seated right next to the Finders of Fortune Headquarters. Those inns and taverns also serve one of Starharbor's specialties, the staring sturgeon, named that way, because, well, the sturgeon's head is still attached to its body and it does indeed seem to stare at the consumer.
Infrastructure
Despite the hardships of recent years, Starharbor is a wealthy city with advanced infrastructure, clean streets, and low rates of illiteracy and homelessness. Homeless people are offered a warm meal and shelter in exchange for helping out at the docks or on the fields. Part of the taxes is expended to cover necessary medical procedures for the less wealthy.
Starharbor is situated on a small cliffside, with important structures, such as the Palace of Stars, a statue of Thea Dawncrest, the Governor's mansion, guard barracks, and places of worship at the crest of the cliff. The life of the city is settled at the base and incline of the cliff with all sorts of living quarters, inns, schools, infirmaries, and, of course, a big market. The outskirts of Starharbor house most of the crafts as well as another guard barrack and the farms providing Starharbor with most of its food.
Tourism
There are many reasons one might visit Starharbor. Some might want to peruse the goods - many of which could be considered exotic in Cadalyn - that the merchants bring to the city. Others might seek the Mage's Tower or the Palace of Stars. More religious people might wish to participate in one of the festivals celebrating the Gods or to visit one of God's temples. The more adventurous type might seek passage to foreign lands or to try their hand working for the Finders of Fortune guild.
Natural Resources
Located on the edge of a cliff, Starharbor has direct access to the ocean. This does not just make for a lucrative trading port but also for bountiful fishing. The land at the base of the cliff is of fairly high quality, allowing the cultivation of wheat, potatoes, and corn. Moreover, there is an apple orchard towards the base of the cliff. It also helps provide some of the food for the livestock, mostly sheep, cows, and chickens.
