Turuhalmeri

Turuhalmeri is an elvish holiday celebrated on Granton 25 every year. It is reminiscent of the deceased and meant to remind the living to appreciate the time they have left.   Elves of the whole town or village gather in the center of the settlement. Every one of them carry a candle which will be placed around the tree or spring. There will be some moments of silence and the town leader will remind everyone of the ones who passed away in the past year.   Afterwards the families go home with their closer friends and celebrate with a lot of music, singing and traditional meals.

History

Due to the longlivity of elves the tradition of Turuhalmeri has been carried out in similar ways throughout centuries. For a long time it was an exclusively elvish holiday, seldom allowing members of other races to join in.   That changed during the Dwarven War, when elves and humans started to work together in order to fight a common enemy. To show respect towards their human allies, elves invited them to join in during Turuhalmeri throughout the years of war. Afterwards they allowed some humans to live in their villages and included them during their speeches to remember the deceased. Human towns also offer elves trees and shrines to practice the tradition of Turuhalmeri.
