Windcrest

Written by Salen

This luxurious elven villa belongs to the Halloran family and is actually much bigger than it seems. It rests in the city of Lyl and has fey flowers and vines around a lush green lawn. The villa itself is made out of white stone and has a high porch near its western side. A beautiful fountain rests on the lawn, and clockwork wind chimes can be found around the edges of the property. It sports two hearths that heat the house during Frostfall, and all doors and windows are locked with gearlocks. Though it was built for the Halloran family, it is ever only used by Raervyn, as most of her family stays in Arimandrian, their home city in the Forest of S'ren.

Porch

This white stone porch has a double wide set of steps leading up, and is main entrance way to the villa. A set of white marble chairs rest on the porch with a small table for drinks, for when Raervyn and her friends just want to sit and have drinks. There is also a white marble bench on the front lawn that can be brought up for additional seats.

Antechamber

Upon entering the villa, the antechamber, or living room, is where Raervyn entertains visitors when not out on the porch. There is a beautiful hearth with a white wood mantle, as well as comfortable couches and chairs. A wonderfully crafted silver long sword hangs above the mantle, crossed with an ornate black powder rifle.

Study

This quiet room is where Raervyn comes to relax, read dwarven manuals, or just write ideas down. The room has a solid oaken writing desk, and shelves that hold a variety of inks, quills, and parchment. It has an armchair with a footstool , and an azure silk couch sits facing the windows overlooking the city streets. Dozens of Gearclocks line the walls and gadgets can be found like knick knacks on every shelf.

Kitchen

This large room also doubles as a second entrance, though it is rarely used except in Heatflow. The room has a solid maple table with barstools and more storage cabinets than needed. All of the dry goods are kept here in the many closets, and an cold Gerabox sits in the corner to keep the perishables cool. Huge blocks of ice sit inside the box to keep everything chilled while gears drive a fan to keep the ice lasting as long as possible.

Library

Raervyn's favorite room in the villa, this room sports half of her collection of books that she's collected over the years. Well over one-hundred books line the many shelves, and tapestries hang around the room. This is one of the places that she researches ideas and clockwork gadgets. An ornate staff rests on a beautiful stand in this room.

Grym's room

This room is for Raervyn's friend Grym. She had this room converted to his tastes, though he has never used it, preferring to stay at the dwarven embassy where he works on his inventions. The room has a nice bed, writing desk, and a closet.

Master Bedroom

Raervyn's master bedroom is the picture of elven style and grace mixed with clockwork technology. A huge bed with blue silk sheets that she uses to rest on, braided rugs, two large mirrors, a large gearclock, a windup sounding horn, crank wind machine, and a walk in wardrobe closet. A gorgeous six shooter hangs over the bed, engraved with silver runes in dwarven.

Training Area

This huge room in the basement is where Raervyn practices her sword and spell training. Wooden practice dummies line the wall and a rack of weapons hang on the wall by the stairs. Scorch marks line the white stone walls on one side, and a variety of pistols hang ready for practice.

Purpose / Function

Originally built as a vacation home for when the Halloran family came to the capitol, this villa rests largely as Raervyn's home and sanctuary. She has redecorated most of the house and given it her special touch of combining technology and magic. Surprisingly, it still has a very elvish feel to it.

Architecture

Elven white stone blended with magic to sculpt the villa. The fountains all connect and flow the water to each other, filtering it each time they pass.

Privy

This bath house/privy has a steel tub that sits into the floor. Dozens of fresh towels and scented soaps and oils rest on wooden carved shelves, as well as bowls of crushed flowers soaking in water to freshen the room. A small forge under the steel tub has a crank and lever that is used to start the bellows, burning a small coal reserve and heating the metal, thus warming the water. The coal lasts only an hour, just enough to get the water warm enough to soothe.

Stairs

Splendidly crafted, wrought-iron, spiral stairs stretch from the basement all the way up to the second floor; but these are not the only stairs. Two secret doors (one in the basement, and another on the second floor) open into a secret hallway that has a set of stairs. This hallway is pitch dark but acts as a back way out for the magus should she ever need it. A lever turns a set of gears in the wall that sparks two torches to life so the stairs can be seen. Another lever at the bottom pumps a bellows, blowing them out.
