Knuckle Runner, The game of chance

Written by Salen

Knuckle runner is a game of chance that most orcs play for fun, betting hard won cyliders on the fastest one to acheive all the "runs" The game is not complex what so ever and is easy to play litteraly anywhere. It is named for the type of dice used and the fact that you have to add up "runs" to win, hence the catchy name. A typical game can last up to an hour if lucky or even three if fate doesn't smile upon you.

What's a Run?

A run is any combination of dice that are the same. For example, the dice all have dots carved into them, so when you roll them and they all come up with two dots, you have a run of 2's. As they roll the dice, they can spend cyliders to "save" numbers that were close and add them to another roll. This can only be done once and costs 100 cylinders, but it is handy to use when you want to speed up your runs.

History

This game has deep roots in the early years of slavery. The discarded bodies of slaves were burned and the bones ground to dust. Rumor has it that one of the incinerators would pocket some of the knuckle bones for a collection and soon after he used them to replace missing dice. It evolved soon after when someone drilled holes to represent numbers and gained popularity in games of chance. It was only a matter of time before a game was born.

Execution

This game requires a group of "runs" in numbers, so that once they are all attained, the winner gains the cylinders bet on the chances.

Components and tools

Set of four knuckle bone dice.

Different Nations, Different Rules

This game changes slightly depending on what Nation you're playing in. In Toth, they use four dice that are set to count 1-4 and the runs are quite methodic.. four 1's, four 2's etc. Once all four are gained, then a winner is declared. In Gromsh, the game calls for an extra run called the "line" 1-2-3-4. In Ragh, the game just sets a fixed run and line, then the first one to achieve that wins (all 2's and a Line for example)
