Cylinder

Written by Salen

Cylinders are shards of raw gold broken off by the special mining guild of the warlords. These golden shards are the main type of payment among the orcs of the Shards and have replaced the coin of the past.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Cylinders look like shards of gold and are about two inches in length and the width of a cigarette.

Origin & Source

Shortly after the slavery of the races the orcs were looking for another form of currency as they were too proud to count on the dwarves to manufacture coins if they were slaves. The first miners to find gold deposits mentioned that some of the ore was fractured when they mined it and the Slave Lord in charge brought this find to Warlord Toth the first. From then on it was distributed into circulation and has been used ever since.

History & Usage

Everyday use

Cylinders are the currency of the Shards, used in every transaction from buying food to building warships.

Cultural Significance and Usage

The significance of the orcs switching from printed coins to shards has everything to do with their inability to handle the smaller clockwork devices of the races before Starfall. With the world thrown into hysteria after the devastation, they needed a simple way to start currency that they could replicate without machines.

Refinement

Cylinders are formed from large gold ore deposits and chiseled down to tiny shards. Some are more pure than others, and you can tell by the weight. the heavier the Cylinder, the less expensive it is. (gold mixed with bits of iron tended to weigh more)

Distribution

Trade & Market

Cylinders are a staple to Shard life and everyone has some of this currency.
