Sky Reign Day

Sky Reign Day is celebrated on the date when the War of the Sky ended. The war, which is called the Dragon Battle by some scholars, lasted for a decade as chromatic and metallic dragons and their allies fought for supremacy of the sky and dominance. Originally, the celebration was a solemn affair. However, as the years went by, it became merrier. Today most people don’t even remember the history behind the tradition. Nevertheless, some customs still serve as a reminder. For example, the children take part in “kite wars” with kites painted as fierce dragons, and people eat “dragon cakes”, vanilla-dusted cakes soaked in pear brandy that are set alight before they are served. In larger towns, Sky Reign Day is celebrated with theatres and masquerades, while in villages the entertainment consists of fairs with travelling entertainers.

History

The War of the Sky was a devastating conflict between the chromatic and metallic dragons, as well as their allies, that lasted for many years. The war was fought for supremacy of the sky and dominance over the lands below.   The chromatic dragons, made up of red, blue, green, black and white dragons, were led by a powerful red dragon named Ignax, who sought to conquer and rule over all the lands beneath the sky. They were known for their ferocity and brutality in battle, and were feared by the people of the kingdom.   The metallic dragons, made up of gold, silver, copper, brass, and bronze dragons, were led by a wise and powerful gold dragon named Auriel, who sought to protect the people of the kingdom and maintain peace and stability in the land. They were known for their courage and honor in battle, and were respected and admired by the people of the kingdom.   The war was fought on many fronts, with battles raging in the skies above and on the ground below. The chromatic dragons had powerful allies in the form of giant beasts and dark wizards, while the metallic dragons had the support of powerful wizards, brave warriors, and skilled archers.   The war was long and bloody, with many lives lost on both sides. The kingdom of Ered Luin was caught in the middle of the conflict, and many of its people were forced to flee their homes and take refuge in the mountains and forests.   The war reached its climax in a final battle high in the sky, where the chromatic dragons were finally defeated by the combined forces of the metallic dragons and their allies. The red dragon Ignax was killed in the battle, and the remaining chromatic dragons were forced to retreat and flee to the far corners of the land.   With the war finally over, the kingdom of Ered Luin was able to rebuild and recover, with the metallic dragons as allies in the effort for fifty years before they returned to their solitude.
