The Crossbearers

With the advent of Etheryst and the encroachment of arcana into everyday life, distrust and fear run rampant throughout many of the populations of Eashavar. There have been circumstances of peasants destroying infrastructure and etherysts, which sometimes result in the creation of greater dangers than the etheryst itself.
While these people have many names, a colloquial term for them has become "the crossbearers." The origins of this name likely stem from the common use of spikes in the destruction of etheryst railways, which are often cross-like in shape. Other theories include the proliferation of crossbows among these undisciplined militias because of their ease-of-us, and an association between some sects of Pyriel holding opposition to etheryst.
In some cities (especially in Montbay), "chapters" of Crossbearers have arisen. They campaign for the cessation of etheryst's use. Historically, these chapters have had shaky relations with the Human Workers Bloc and other revolutionary organizations, alternatively holding deeply reactionary and radical beliefs.
