Lorkat Bol

Summary

Lorkat Bol, the Lich of the East, was a figure which appeared upon the Pharosian continent during the Age of Destruction. He was said to emanate an evil aura, and to be capable of shifting into horrible and terrifying beasts, powers granted to him by unknown powers for his service to Bach'thal. Lorkat Bol vanished with the fall of the dragonflight, but has been rumored to be present in Southmoor for ages, and temples to him are known to exist hidden deep within the glaves of Everaldimor.   Some hypothesize the Lorkat Bol was Bellus Vrakis. Others believe he fled to Kai'Rin, and became the Misery Man. In any case, he was the first to bring the powers of undeath to the continent, and is still today a feared name among the High Elves.

The Legend of Lorkat Bol

The Legend of Lorkat Bol is a folk tale, primarily told by the Valsh, though it has also spread to other tribes and cultures. Variations exist, but the Valsh interpretation is considered among the oldest and the most original renditions. It goes as follows:
"Once, in ages past, o'er our lands
The tides of destruction were cast.
When elves, they fell, and dragons they fought,
A man - a witch, turned lich - was begot.
  By his hand, the lich proclaimed,
Shall dead and dragon rule the land.
Bach'thal agreed, but Amros did sway,
And joined the elves to stop his reign.
  Thus, so it goes, that Bach'thal failed;
But Lorkat, cunning, escaped his foes.
Some still pray, and all still fear,
that Lorkat shall again draw near.
  When, again, the Lich-Lord shall rise,
he'll call the flight unto the skies.
For when dragons fly and liches stalk,
There is no room for man to walk.
  And so, the epilogue shall commence:
When dragons old and souls encaptured,
shall fight for evil rule and rapture;
But who shall win, it matters not,
For in either end is eternity wrought."
