Brightlings

Brightlings

Brightlings are the chosen children of Jenasa. They are typically the result of her interference in the bloodlines of Humans and Elves, though rarely other mortals and even Fey may be touched by her will. Unlike others affected by the Ones Within, Brightlings are typically celebrated - if with an underlying suspicion - by worshippers of the deities of the Triad Song.

General Information

Rarity: Uncommon. (You may play this race only after consulting with the DM. There may be limits on the number of players able to play this race in a single party.)   Physical Description: Brightlings stand out primarily by their halos, though some have broad, avian-like or angelic wings and others have developed body-wide glows and markings that betray their ancestry. Some Brightlings become so later in their lives, a rumor and goal which is especially prominent among the crusaders of Borden. Aside from light-like features and potentially wings, Brightlings retain the physical forms of other races.   Family Structure: Brightlings often grow up in large family structures, where the church of Nes or Pyriel is intimately involved in their rearing and education. They tend to have strong feelings of duty to their communities and family, and though they typically live independently upon reaching adulthood, they stay in close contact with their families and friends.   Attitude Toward Society: Brightlings are typically model citizens, exemplifying all that is good and lawful within society. Despite this, they are quick to cause trouble when faced with grievous injustice, but most recognize that they are but a minor part of the world's march towards progress and that they do not have the right or authority to meddle in mortal affairs as they see fit. The majority of Brightlings find a comfortable position in churches, especially those of the Triad, who are more than eager to hire.   Attitude Toward Gender: Brightlings inherit the gender norms of the societies they inhabit, typically Human or Elven. They rigidly embrace these genders, as they do all norms and roles in their respective societies. They see no reason to question their place in such an abstract way.   Attitude Toward Relationships: Most Brightlings do not form relationships, and are effectively aromantic and asexual. Those who do form relationships typically do so with other members of the faiths they follow, and are almost always monogamous.

race features:
Halo: You have a halo. You may cause it to burn brighter at will, radiating light 10 ft. outwards. Creatures whose vision is negatively affected by sunlight are affected by your halo.

Lightbringer

The influence of Jenasa manifests through the Lightbringer's powers over manipulation of light. Lightbringers appear as humanoids, but sport runes across their skin and eyes that can burn bright in color, making the Brightling a font of positive energy.   Glowbound: You are capable of transforming your body into pure life energy. Your halo's light radiates outward to 30 feet and any undead attacker which strikes you takes 1d6 points of radiant damage + 1 point per your level. You may do this for a number of rounds equal to your Constitution modifier between long rests.

Brightwing

The influence of Jenasa manifests through the Brightwing's more angelic characteristics. Though they do not have the powers of light within them, they sport expansive wings which permit them to fly into the heavens in pursuit of their foes.   Heavenbound: You are capable of flying with a speed of 20 ft. You must be in a space wide enough to accommodate your wingspan, which is three tiles if you are medium-sized and one tile if you are small. If you are hit while flying, you must make a Constitution save with a DC equal to 10 or half the damage taken, whichever is higher, falling to the ground on a failure. You must move at least half your speed in a turn while flying, or you fall to the ground.

Brightling - Variant

Jenasa's Chosen: You were isolated as you trained in Jenasa's path, and have been especially gifted by her powers due to your strict dedication. You gain both the Lightbringer and Brightwing subraces, but you do not gain a cultural trait. Additionally, you gain +2 Charisma instead of the usual +1.
